The glacier ice worm Mesenchytraeus solifugus survives year‐round at 0 °C. Its ATP6 subunit, which forms a regulatory component of the proton pore in mitochondrial ATP synthase, has a carboxy‐terminal extension not found in any other organism examined to date. Here, we show that fusion of this extension to the homologous AtpB protein in E. coli results

Functional variation among LPMOs revealed by the inhibitory effects of cyanide and buffer ions
This study addresses the inhibition of lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases (LPMOs) by cyanide and explains how and why the magnitude of observed inhibitory effects depends on the way LPMO reactions are setup and on the type of LPMO. Enzymes known as lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases (LPMOs) are mono‐copper polysaccharide‐degrading peroxygenases that ...

Mapping Global Star Formation in the Interacting Galaxy Pair Arp32 [PDF]
A multi-wavelength set of photometric data including UV (GALEX), optical, near-IR, infrared (Spitzer) and radio (VLA 20cm) images and spectroscopic observations are used to map the dust-obscured and unobscured star formation in the galaxy pair Arp 32 ...

Low‐density lipoprotein receptor‐related protein 6 (LRP6) is a key receptor for the Wnt antagonist Dickkopf1 (DKK1). DKK1 protein expression is induced in a bleomycin (BLM)‐induced lung injury model. We show that DKK1 induces proinflammatory and profibrotic genes in lung fibroblasts.

Present-Day Star Formation: Protostellar Outflows and Clustered Star Formation
Stars form predominantly in clusters inside dense clumps of turbulent, magnetized molecular clouds. The typical size and mass of the cluster-forming clumps are \sim 1 pc and \sim 10^2 - 10^3 M_\odot, respectively. Here, we discuss some recent progress on

The Reliability of [C II] as a Star Formation Rate Indicator
We present a calibration of the star formation rate (SFR) as a function of the [C II] 157.74 μm luminosity for a sample of 24 star-forming galaxies in the nearby universe.

Characteristics of the Kelch domain containing (KLHDC) subfamily and relationships with diseases
The Kelch protein superfamily includes 63 members, with the KLHDC subfamily having 10 proteins. While their functions are not fully understood, recent advances in KLHDC2's structure and role in protein degradation have highlighted its potential for drug development, especially in PROTAC therapies.

We investigate the nature of star formation in gas-rich galaxies at z > 7 forming in a markedly overdense region, in the vicinity of a massive virialized halo already exceeding 10 ^12 M _⊙ , through the use of the very-high-resolution cosmological ...

A Disk Wind Driving the Rotating Molecular Outflow in CB 26
We present the ^12 CO ( J = 2–1) sensitive molecular line and 1.3 mm continuum observations from the Submillimeter Array (SMA) of the bipolar outflow associated with the young star located in the Bok globule known as CB 26.

We present the first solution structure of the Ca2+‐depleted LETM1 F‐EF‐hand through a D676A/N678A Ca2+ binding‐deficient mutant, revealing a closed hydrophobic cleft caused by a unique F1‐helix pivot. The apo LETM1 F‐EF‐hand exhibits regiospecific hot and cold unfolding, sensitivity to physiological pH changes and potential for promiscuous heterotypic
