Star Formation in the LMC: Gravitational Instability and Dynamical Triggering [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Evidence for triggered star formation is difficult to establish because energy feedback from massive stars tend to erase the interstellar conditions that led to the star formation.

Dynamics of Aggregation in Systems of Self-Propelled Rods

open access: yesEntropy
We highlight camphene–camphor–polypropylene plastic as a useful material for self-propelled objects that show aggregation while floating on a water surface.

ASTROCHEMISTRY OF STAR FORMATION

open access: yesOdessa Astronomical Publications, 2013
Star formation is one of the key processes governing the evolution of the Universe. It is accompanied by significant transformations in the chemical composition and the physical state of the interstellar medium. Combining observations in infrared and

The cytoskeletal control of B cell receptor and integrin signaling in normal B cells and chronic lymphocytic leukemia

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In lymphoid organs, antigen recognition and B cell receptor signaling rely on integrins and the cytoskeleton. Integrins act as mechanoreceptors, couple B cell receptor activation to cytoskeletal remodeling, and support immune synapse formation as well as antigen extraction.

Playing with positive feedback: external pressure-triggering of a star-forming disc galaxy

open access: yes, 2015
Feedback in massive galaxies generally involves quenching of star formation, a favored candidate being outflows from a central supermassive black hole.

A Natural Laboratory for Astrochemistry: The Variable Protostar B335

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
Emission lines from complex organic molecules in B335 were observed in four epochs, spanning a luminosity burst of about 10 yr duration. The emission lines increased dramatically in intensity as the luminosity increased, but they have decreased only ...

The Properties of an Edge-On Low Surface Brightness Galaxies Sample

open access: yesUniverse
We analyzed the properties of a sample of edge-on low-surface brightness galaxies, which are referred to as Cao23 ELSBGs. Cao23 ELSBGs exhibit a wide range of luminosities (−22 < Mr < −13) with a mean scale length of 3.19 ± 1.48 kpc.

Social context prevents heat hormetic effects against mutagens during fish development

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study shows that sublethal heat stress protects fish embryos against ultraviolet radiation, a concept known as ‘hormesis’. However, chemical stress transmission between fish embryos negates this protective effect. By providing evidence for the mechanistic molecular basis of heat stress hormesis and interindividual stress communication, this study ...
