Evaluation of Star Identification Techniques
Journal of Guidance, Control, and Dynamics, 1997Traditionally, star sensors have used fairly large e elds of view and bright stars to perform tracking and identie cation. Recent trends in space missions have brought out the need for smaller e eld-of-view sensors, capable of performing multiple functions that will reduce spacecraft payload and cost.

A fast recognition algorithm for star identification of star trackers
IECON 2017 - 43rd Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2017This paper focuses on recognizing the correct match of star identification among multiple possible candidates for star trackers. Derived from the perturbation theory, a tolerance criterion is proposed and proved to check the correctness of the candidates.

Stochastic star identification
Journal of Guidance, Control, and Dynamics, 1994Summary: An approach to star identification based on comparing observed pattern statistics with the precomputed star cataloged statistics is suggested. The identification criterion is based on evaluating a posteriori probabilities of designated star sequences obtained from observing different star fields. Numerical results based on a specific algorithm

Star-field identification algorithm
Optics Letters, 1993A six-feature, all-sky star-field identification algorithm has been developed. The minimum identifiable star pattern element consists of an oriented star triplet defined by three stars, their celestial coordinates, and their visual magnitudes.

IDENTIFICATION OF STARS BY LEARNERS
Empire Survey Review, 1960AbstractIt is not customary in text-books on surveying to treat the identification of stars as a subject requiring detailed discussion; nevertheless with learner-surveyors and occasional practitioners it is a major problem.

Nondimensional star identification for uncalibrated star cameras
The Journal of the Astronautical Sciences, 2006Star identification is the most critical and important process for attitude estimation, given data from any star sensor. The main purpose of the Star Identification (Star-ID) process is to identify the observed/measured stars with the corresponding cataloged stars.

Iterative algorithm for autonomous star identification
IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems, 2015An autonomous star identification algorithm is described in this study. This algorithm iteratively determines a catalog star, the distances of which to its neighbors are similar to those of a given sensor star and its neighboring stars, until a unique match is found.

An Analytical Approach to Star Identification Reliability
AIAA Guidance, Navigation and Control Conference and Exhibit, 2008Abstract The problem of real-time, on-board star pattern identification is considered which must precede any spacecraft attitude estimation algorithm based on measured line of sight directions to stars. Following the use of the search-less k -vector method to access feasible candidate stars (detailed in a previous paper) a tiered logical ...

An Novel Effective Simulation Method of Star Atlas for Star Identification
2012 Fifth International Joint Conference on Computational Sciences and Optimization, 2012In order to further improve the attitude control accuracy of the spacecraft and analysis the star identification algorithm, an effective simulation method of star atlas is proposed. This approach utilizes the same field of view in different latitude to calculate the exact position of observed stars in the charge-coupled device (CCD) image plane.

IDENTIFICATION OF STARS BY LEARNERS
Survey Review, 1961AbstractIn the April 1960 issue of the Empire Survey Review (xv, 116, 277–281), Mr. Tait deals with the very real difficulty of identifying stars observed during the course of a position line programme, which is not a pre-computed programme. This difficulty is one that, moreover, is not confined only to learners.
