Massive post-starburst galaxies at z > 1 are compact proto-spheroids [PDF]
We investigate the relationship between the quenching of star formation and the structural transformation of massive galaxies, using a large sample of photometrically-selected poststarburst galaxies in the UKIDSS UDS field.

Methods for identifying high‐redshift galaxy cluster candidates
Abstract Recent theories linked long gamma ray bursts (GRBs) to galaxies with rapid star formation or starburst; thus, we expect that long GRBs (LGRBs) are more frequent in midcluster galaxies where mergers and tidal interactions between gas‐rich galaxies are more likely to occur. Yet there is no galaxy cluster known to be associated with LGRBs.

An Extremely Compact, Low-mass Galaxy on its Way to Quiescence at z = 5.2
We report the discovery of a low-mass z = 5.200 ± 0.002 galaxy that is in the process of ceasing its star formation. The galaxy, MACS0417-z5BBG, is multiply imaged with magnification factors ∼40 by the galaxy cluster MACS J0417.5-1154, observed as part ...

Current Star Formation in Post-Starburst Galaxies? [PDF]
Radio continuum observations are a probe of star formation in galaxies, and are unaffected by dust extinction. Observations of the distant rich cluster Cl 0939+4713 have detected radio galaxies classified as post-starburst (``k+a'') on the basis of their

The History of Starburst Galaxies [PDF]
Dusty galaxies with luminosities in excess of 10^11 solar luminosities have been detected out to redshifts of about unity by the Infrared Space Observatory (ISO), and to higher redshifts using millimetre(mm)- and submm-wave cameras on ground-based telescopes.

Estimation of the detected background by the future gamma ray transient mission CAMELOT
Abstract This study presents a background estimation for the CubeSats Applied for MEasuring and LOcalising Transients (CAMELOT), which is a proposed fleet of nanosatellites for the all‐sky monitoring and timing‐based localization of gamma ray transients with precise localization capability at low Earth orbits.

Sensitivity of the combined fit of energy spectrum, shower depth distributions, and arrival directions at the Pierre Auger Observatory [PDF]
The Pierre Auger Observatory measures several characteristics of ultra-high-energy cosmic rays (UHECRs), most importantly the energy spectrum, the distribution of maximum shower depths and the arrival directions.

Gasdynamics and Starbursts in Interacting Galaxies [PDF]
The onset of gaseous inflows and central activity in interacting galaxies is driven largely by induced bars in the host galaxies. The stability of galaxies against growing bar modes is a direct function of their structural properties — galaxies with central bulges or low disk surface densities are more stable against central starbursts than are ...

The Colors and Sizes of Recently Quenched Galaxies: A Result of Compact Starburst before Quenching [PDF]
We analyze the colors and sizes of 32 quiescent (UVJ-selected) galaxies with strong Balmer absorption (EW(Hδ) ≥ 4 Å) at z ∼ 0.8 drawn from DR2 of the LEGA-C survey to test the hypothesis that these galaxies experienced compact, central starbursts before ...

Star Formation Law at Sub‐kpc Scale in the Elliptical Galaxy Centaurus A as Seen by ALMA
We present an extensive analysis of the relationship between star formation rate surface density (∑SFR) and molecular gas surface density (∑H2) at sub‐kpc scale in the elliptical galaxy Centaurus A (also known as NGC 5128) at the distance 3.8 Mpc. 12CO (J = 2‐1) data from Atacama Large Millimetre/Sub‐Millimetre Array SV data with very high resolution ...
