A first look at starlink performance [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 22nd ACM Internet Measurement Conference, 2022
With new Low Earth Orbit satellite constellations such as Starlink, satellite-based Internet access is becoming an alternative to traditional fixed and wireless technologies with comparable throughputs and latencies. In this paper, we investigate the user-perceived performance of Starlink.

A Multifaceted Look at Starlink Performance

open access: yesProceedings of the ACM Web Conference 2024
In recent years, Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) mega-constellations have emerged as a promising network technology and have ushered in a new era for democratizing Internet access. The Starlink network from SpaceX stands out as the only consumer-facing LEO network with over 2M+ customers and more than 4000 operational satellites.

The economic impact of StarLink corn

open access: yesAgribusiness, 2005
The discovery of StarLink corn in U.S. food products caused considerable disruption in corn markets in 2000 and 2001. Segregation costs were incurred by the U.S. grain-handling system in order to ensure that domestic and export sales of food corn and export sales of non-food corn to Japan meet stringent tolerance levels. These costs reduced the revenue

Extreme Flaring of Starlink Satellites

open access: yes
Starlink satellites can become extremely bright when sunlight reflects specularly to an observer on the ground. The observed brightness of such flares is consistent with a bidirectional reflectance function of the Starlink satellite chassis. These findings are applied to the case of an extreme flare that was reported as an Unidentified Aerial Phenomena

Estimation of the Starlink Global Satellite System Capacity

open access: yesProceedings of the International Conference on Applied Innovations in IT, 2023
In this paper, the capacity of the Starlink global satellite system is considered and evaluated. We will evaluate using the link budget. The code gain due to the addition of error-correcting coding has been added to the calculation of the link budget. At
