Plaskett 1.8 m Observations of Starlink Satellites
Abstract We present observations of 23 Starlink satellites in the g′ bandpass, obtained from the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory’s Plaskett 1.8 m telescope. The targets include a mixture of satellites with and without brightness mitigation measures (i.e., visors).

Interactions, star formation and extended nebulae in SDSS type 2 quasars at 0.3<~ z <~ 0.6 [PDF]
We present long-slit spectroscopy and imaging data obtained with FORS2 on the Very Large Telescope of 13 optically selected type 2 quasars at z~0.3-0.6 from the original sample of Zakamska et al. (2003).

The Economics of Testing for Biotech Grain: Application to StarLink Corn
StarLink corn, a variety not approved for human use, disrupted the marketing system in 2000 because of inadvertent commingling. This paper provides an overview of the economics of testing grain for biotech content.

The eclipsing, double-lined, Of supergiant binary Cyg OB2-B17 [PDF]
Massive, eclipsing, double-lined, spectroscopic binaries are not common but are necessary to understand the evolution of massive stars as they are the only direct way to determine stellar masses.

On the anomaly of Balmer line profiles of A-type stars. Fundamental binary systems [PDF]
In previous work, Gardiner et al. (1999) found evidence for a discrepancy between the Teff obtained from Balmer lines with that from photometry and fundamental values for A-type stars.

A new HW Vir binary from the Palomar Transient Factory: PTF1 J072455.75+125300.3 - An eclipsing subdwarf B binary with a M-star companion [PDF]
We report the discovery of an eclipsing binary -- PTF1 J072456$+$125301-- composed of a subdwarf B (sdB) star ($g'=17.2^m$) with a faint companion. Subdwarf B stars are core helium-burning stars, which can be found on the extreme horizontal branch. About

Reimplementing the Hierarchical Data System using HDF5
The Starlink Hierarchical Data System has been a very successful niche astronomy file format and library for over 30 years. Development of the library was frozen ten years ago when funding for Starlink was stopped and almost no-one remains who ...

Starlink corn: a risk analysis. [PDF]
Modern biotechnology has dramatically increased our ability to alter the agronomic traits of plants. Among the novel traits that biotechnology has made available, an important group includes Bacillus thuringiensis-derived insect resistance. This technology has been applied to potatoes, cotton, and corn. Benefits of Bt crops, and biotechnology generally,
