Imaging the Secondary Stars in Cataclysmic Variables [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
The secondary, Roche-lobe filling stars in cataclysmic variables (CVs) are key to our understanding of the origin, evolution and behaviour of this class of interacting binary. We review the basic properties of the secondary stars in CVs and the observational and analysis methods required to detect them.

Geodesic star convexity for interactive image segmentation

open access: yes2010 IEEE Computer Society Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition, 2010
In this paper we introduce a new shape constraint for interactive image segmentation. It is an extension of Veksler's [25] star-convexity prior, in two ways: from a single star to multiple stars and from Euclidean rays to Geodesic paths. Global minima of the energy function are obtained subject to these new constraints.

Development of star image simulator for star sensor algorithm validation

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series, 2018
The use of star sensor, which is the most accurate attitude sensor on satellites, began to penetrate into micro satellites and nano satellites. Thus the need arises to research and develop star sensor independently to meet the specific design of micro satellites and nano satellites.

Doppler Imaging of Ap Stars

open access: yes, 1998
Doppler imaging, a technique which inverts spectral line profile variations of an Ap star into a two-dimensional abundance maps, provides new observational constraints on diffusion mechanism in the presence of a global magnetic field. A programme is presented here with the aim to obtain abundance distributions of at least five elements on each star, in

Lucky imaging: beyond binary stars

open access: yes, 2014
Lucky imaging is a technique for high resolution astronomical imaging at visible wavelengths, utilising medium sized ground based telescopes in the 2--4m class. The technique uses high speed, low noise cameras to record short exposures which may then be processed to minimise the deleterious effects of atmospheric turbulence upon image quality.
