Sequential Monte Carlo Methods for Discharge Time Prognosis in Lithium-ion Batteries

open access: yesInternational Journal of Prognostics and Health Management, 2012
This paper presents the implementation of a particle-filtering-based prognostic framework that allows estimating the state-of-charge (SOC) and predicting the discharge time of energy storage devices (more specifically lithium-ion batteries). The proposed

Intelligent SOX Estimation for Automotive Battery Management Systems: State-of-the-Art Deep Learning Approaches, Open Issues, and Future Research Opportunities

open access: yesEnergies, 2022
Real-time battery SOX estimation including the state of charge (SOC), state of energy (SOE), and state of health (SOH) is the crucial evaluation indicator to assess the performance of automotive battery management systems (BMSs).

Charge injection instability in perfect insulators

open access: yes, 1997
We show that in a macroscopic perfect insulator, charge injection at a field-enhancing defect is associated with an instability of the insulating state or with bistability of the insulating and the charged state.

Equation of State of Charged Rod Dispersions

open access: yesThe Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 2023
We study the accuracy of the theory of Stroobants, Lekkerkerker and Odijk, called SLO theory (Macromolecules 19 (1986) 2232-2238), to describe the thermodynamic properties of an isotropic fluid of charged rods. By incorporation of the effective diameter of the rods according to SLO theory into scaled particle theory (SPT) we obtain an expression for ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Charge density wave in hidden order state of URu$_2$Si$_2$

open access: yes, 2010
We argue that the hidden order state in URu$_2$Si$_2$ will induce a charge density wave. The modulation vector of the charge density wave will be twice that of the hidden order state, $Q_{CDW} = 2Q_{HO}$.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Novel Test Procedure for Assessing Lead–Acid Batteries for Partial-State-of-Charge Duty Using Internal Resistance Charge Acceptance Technique

open access: yesBatteries
Battery energy storage systems (BESSs) are often used in partial-state-of-charge (PSOC) operation due to the desire for flexibility of charge and discharge. Lead–acid batteries are a good candidate to be used in battery energy storage due to their safety,

ON STATES, ON A LATTICE, WITH HALF-INTEGRAL CHARGE [PDF]

open access: yesNuclear Physics B, 1983
In certain molecular models, and related one-dimensional field theories, localized objects appear with half-integral expectation values of charge. We consider whether these states are eigenstates of charge, with half-integral eigenvalue. We find that it is indeed so for a suitably diffuse definition of the charge operator in question.
