Reducing Test Bias Through Dynamic Assessment Of Children's Word Learning Ability [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
This study examined the performance of preschool children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, both typically developing and with low language ability, on a word-learning task.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Direct Measurement of Dynamics in Road Bridges Using a Bridge Weigh-In-Motion System

open access: yesThe Baltic Journal of Road and Bridge Engineering, 2013
A method is presented of measuring a bridge’s characteristic allowance for dynamic interaction in the form of Assessment Dynamic Ratio. Using a Bridge Weigh-in-Motion system, measurements were taken at a bridge in Slovenia over 58 days.

AWACS static loads assessment

open access: yes, 2017
Airborne Warning and Control System AWACS radars has become critical for succeeding in a wide range of military missions. The tactical and surveillance systems rely on the coverage and location of the radar antenna which can take several configurations. The thesis is aimed to develop specific methods for obtaining the conceptual

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Flexibility evaluation of hybrid WDM/TDM PONs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
A hybrid WDM/TDM passive optical network (PON) is a promising candidate for next-generation optical access (NGOA) solutions. Several hybrid WDM/TDM PON architectures can be designed, each with a different degree of flexibility, going from fully static ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Stability assessment method based on actual measurements for a cable-driven continuum robot

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu
In order to experimentally determine the controlled variable values realizing a quasi-zero stiffness of a cable driven continuum robot, this paper presents an experimental method for quantitatively and accurately assessing the stability of a robot in a ...
