Cytoplasmic p21 promotes stemness of colon cancer cells via activation of the NFκB pathway

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytoplasmic p21 promotes colorectal cancer stem cell (CSC) features by destabilizing the NFκB–IκB complex, activating NFκB signaling, and upregulating BCL‐xL and COX2. In contrast to nuclear p21, cytoplasmic p21 enhances spheroid formation and stemness transcription factor CD133.

The Galactic Center Isolated Nonthermal Filaments as Analogs of Cometary Plasma Tails [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
We propose a model for the origin of the isolated nonthermal filaments observed at the Galactic center based on an analogy to cometary plasma tails. We invoke the interaction between a large scale magnetized galactic wind and embedded molecular clouds ...

Methylation biomarkers can distinguish pleural mesothelioma from healthy pleura and other pleural pathologies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed and validated a DNA methylation–based biomarker panel to distinguish pleural mesothelioma from other pleural conditions. Using the IMPRESS technology, we translated this panel into a clinically applicable assay. The resulting two classifier models demonstrated excellent performance, achieving high AUC values and strong diagnostic accuracy.

Static posturography as an instrument to assess the balance among athletes

open access: yesJournal of Education, Health and Sport, 2018
Equilibrium is defined as the ability to maintain the roll centre of gravity (centre of mass - COM), which is located in the abdomen, inner support surface defined by the contour of the foot.

Comparing the Balance of Male Athletes Aged 11-14 Years With and Without Genu Varum

open access: yesBiyumikānīk-i varzishī, 2019
Objective Maintaining balance is one of the most important functions of neuromuscular system in performing all simple and complex¬ sports activities. Musculoskeletal deformities especially, genu varum in the lower extremity, can negatively affect the ...

Strength through diversity: how cancers thrive when clones cooperate

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Intratumor heterogeneity can offer direct benefits to the tumor through cooperation between different clones. In this review, Kuiken et al. discuss existing evidence for clonal cooperativity to identify overarching principles, and highlight how novel technological developments could address remaining open questions.

Relationship between Core Stability Muscle Endurance and Static and Dynamic Balance in Basketball Players

open access: yesBiyumikānīk-i varzishī, 2016
Objective: Balancing is the most basic function of the neuromuscular system in performing all simple and complex activities that contribute to health-related physical fitness. Core stability may be a contributing factor to static and dynamic balance. The
