Experimental Characterization of Mycelium‐Based Composites Under Multiple Loading Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines the mechanical response of mycelium‐based composites under compression, shear, and tension using mechanical testing and imaging methods. The comparison between unpressed and hot‐pressed specimens shows that hot pressing is associated with higher compression and shear stiffnesses.

The effect of voids on the flexural fatigue properties of carbon/epoxy composites

open access: yes, 2010
The role of voids in composite failures has not been well understood or been characterized. This study presents the result of an investigation aimed at examining the mechanical behaviour of unidirectional carbon fibre-reinforced polymer matrix materials ...

Evaluation of modulus of elasticity in static bending of particleboards manufactured with Eucalyptus grandis wood and oat hulls

open access: yesActa Scientiarum: Technology, 2014
The aim of this study was to determine the modulus of elasticity (MOE) in static bending using two different calculation methods, a simple one based on Brazilian standard ABNT NBR 14810 (ABNT, 2006), and an alternative one, based on the Least Squares ...

Comparison of Triply Periodic Minimal Surface Energy Absorbers Under Uniaxial Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates LCD 3D printed Triply Periodic Minimal Surface (TPMS) structures as mechanical energy absorbers. By comparing various base designs and layered combinations under uniaxial compression, it identifies that a Diamond‐Gyroid sandwich structure offers superior performance.

Moisture effects on the bending fatigue of laminated composites [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
This paper investigated the effect of moisture ingress on the bending fatigue of laminated composites. An accelerated testing method was developed to investigate the correlation between composite fatigue and moisture diffusion effects. Unidirectional and

Experimental and Numerical Modal Analysis of Composite Sandwich Structures Using Surfboards as Model Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents an experimental and numerical modal investigation of composite sandwich structures using surfboards as model systems. By comparing different core materials and reinforcement strategies, the study demonstrates how local stiffeners influence vibrational response and introduce characteristic modal features, highlighting modal ...

Thermal static bending of deployable interlocked booms

open access: yes, 1973
Metal ribbons processed with a heat-forming treatment are enabled to form tubelike structures when deployed from a roll. Deployable booms of this have been utilized for gravity-gradient stabilization on the RAE, ATS, and Nimbus D satellites.

A Comparative Study of Force Prediction Models during Static Bending Stage for 3-Roller Cone Frustum Bending

open access: yes, 2016
Conical sections and shells of metal plates manufactured by 3-roller conical bending process are widely used in the industries. The process is completed by first bending the metal plates statically and then dynamic roller bending sequentially.
