On the Dependence of Static Friction Coefficient on Normal Load [PDF]

open access: hybridTribology Letters
Abstract In recent interesting experiments, Peng et al. ((2015) PRL, 134, 176202) have shown that the static friction coefficient in a spherical contact drops of a factor close to 2 over 3 decades of increase of normal load, converging to a dynamic friction coefficient.

Efficiency of polymer materials in highly loaded systems in the aviation industry

open access: yesAviation, 2023
The static coefficient of friction was calculated on an inclined plane tribological stand. Different specimens and masses loading the system were used during the experiment. Surface-to-surface contact was tested in a pin-on-plate setup.

Static and Kinetic Friction From Nanoscale Slip—A Multiscale Approach Using a 2D Binary Hierarchy of Nodes

open access: yesFrontiers in Materials, 2022
A local, elastic deformation model is combined with a dynamic simulation to investigate nanoscale slip between a rigid, curved pin and an elastic slab, and its influence on static and kinetic friction.

Experimental Study on the Transition between Static and Kinetic Frictions of Steel/Shale Pairs

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 2021
The transition between static and kinetic frictions of steel/shale pairs has been studied. It was found that the coefficient of friction decreased exponentially from static to dynamic friction coefficient with increasing sliding displacement.

Static friction coefficient depends on the external pressure and block shape due to precursor slip

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
Amontons’ law states that the maximum static friction force on a solid object is proportional to the loading force and is independent of the apparent contact area.

Stochastic Properties of Static Friction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
The onset of frictional motion is mediated by rupture-like slip fronts, which nucleate locally and propagate eventually along the entire interface causing global sliding.
