An identification method for static and dynamic friction coefficients

2007 International Conference on Control, Automation and Systems, 2007
This paper deals with the identification of static and dynamic friction coefficients. An approach based on limit cycles properties once a regulated mechanical system is brought to oscillations is proposed. This leads to an explicit formulation in the regulator parameters on one part, and the oscillation amplitude and period on the other part.

Static and dynamic coefficient of friction in friction pairs of disc-pad brakes

Bulletin of Kharkov National Automobile and Highway University, 2022
Problem This scientific article is devoted to the value of static and dynamic coefficients of friction of disc-pad brakes. The issue of disc-pad brake wear is very acute because the safety of using the machine itself depends on its reliable operation. Therefore, the relevance of the chosen topic cannot be doubted. Goal.

The Static Coefficient of Friction and the Area of Contact

Proceedings of the Physical Society. Section B, 1950
An apparatus for measuring the static coefficient of friction has been designed in which the forces tending to disturb the contact area are minimized and which further enables the contact area to be viewed throughout the experiment. Application of a tangential load, less than that required to give limiting friction, has been shown to give rise to a ...

An identification method for static and coulomb friction coefficients

International Journal of Control, Automation and Systems, 2009
This paper deals with the identification of static and Coulomb friction coefficients. An approach based on limit cycles properties once the mechanical system is brought to oscillations is proposed. This leads to an explicit formulation in the regulator parameters on one part, and the oscillation amplitude and period on the other part.

Relation between the static-friction and slipping-friction coefficients

Russian Engineering Research, 2015
A method of establishing the relation between the static-friction and slipping-friction coefficients of a specific pair of materials is proposed. The theoretical basis of the method is outlined, and the corresponding device is described.

Coefficients of Friction: Static Versus Dynamic

2020 Joint Rail Conference, 2020
Abstract This paper deals with the problem of static and dynamic (or kinetic) friction, namely the coefficients of friction for the two states. The coefficient of static friction is well known, and its theory and practice are commonly accepted by the academia and the industry.

Effect of Bushing Miniaturization on the Static Friction Coefficient

Journal of Testing and Evaluation, 2016
Abstract As machines become smaller, friction plays an increasingly important role in their performance. Although friction is a well-studied phenomenon, few studies have been performed on bushings and shafts with loads of a few tens of mN and dimensions of a few mm.

Coefficients of static friction under statically and dynamically applied loads

Wear, 1961
Abstract The coefficient of static friction under static loads with normal pressures of about 10,000 p.s.i. and under dynamically applied loads ranging from 10,000 to 20,000 p.s.i. were determined. The test apparatus was so arranged that dynamically applied normal and tangential loads are applied simultaneously. Results are given for combinations of

Static friction coefficients for mechanical and structural joints

Wear, 1974
Abstract A review of available data on static friction of steel is presented. This is directed towards obtaining coefficients of friction applicable to structural connections, particularly those subject to vibratory loading. The data are found to be inadequate and widely scattered, showing some dependence on normal pressure.

Static coefficients of friction for polyethylenes

Polymer Engineering & Science, 1966
AbstractThe static coefficients of friction of solid polyolefins against metal surfaces has been determined as functions of pressure, temperature, and metal surface finish. The polymers studied were a low debsity (branched) polyethylene, a high density copolymer, and a high density (linear) polyethylene homocopolymer, and a high density (linear ...
