Equilibrium of a wood stack formed by close-packed cylindrical logs [PDF]

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Ensino de Física
The static equilibrium of cylindrical wood pieces in a close-packed order is analyzed. By considering the coefficient of static friction μ L between two adjacent logs and the coefficient of static friction μ G between the logs and the ground, it ...

Fragility and hysteretic creep in frictional granular jamming

open access: yes, 2012
The granular jamming transition is experimentally investigated in a two-dimensional system of frictional, bi-dispersed disks subject to quasi-static, uniaxial compression at zero granular temperature.

Analysis of a dry friction problem under small displacements: application to a bolted joint [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
This study presents an analysis of the problem of macroscopic contact of steel upon steel with dry friction, in the specific case of a bolted joint. The configurations of these types of joints result in very small displacements and interface sliding ...

Multi‐Responsive Dendrimer‐Hyaluronic Acid Hydrogel With Lubricating and Immunoregulatory Functions for Synergistic Osteoarthritis Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A hydrogel with dynamic cross‐links was formed by cross‐linking hyaluronic acid with curcumin‐preloaded, phenylboronic acid‐modified poly(amidoamine) dendrimers. This hydrogel exhibited excellent injectability and self‐healing ability, enabling controlled Cur release in response to low pH, high reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, or mechanical ...

Critical-like Features of Stress Response in Frictional Packings

open access: yes, 2015
The mechanical response of static, unconfined, overcompressed face centred cubic, granular arrays is studied using large-scale, discrete element method simulations.

Magnetothermal‐Triggered Response and Self‐Healing of Recyclable and Reprocessable Nanocomposites for Actuation Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Developing recyclable materials for magnetic robotics that combine rapid response and self‐healing properties is challenging. Hence, this study focuses on the integration of magnetothermal nanoparticles into a dynamic sorbitol‐based vitrimer, a recyclable composite capable of remote actuation and self‐healing by magnetic heating.

Establishment and Parameter Calibration of a DEM-Based Contact Model for Leymus chinensis Seed–Straw Mixtures

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The study of Leymus chinensis seed cleaning has been hindered by the lack of accurate discrete-element contact parameters for seed–straw interactions, thereby limiting, to some extent, the optimization of cleaning equipment.

Curvature‐Tuned Friction at Electrified Ionic Liquid Interfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Graphene curvature plays a key role in friction electrotunability at single‐asperity contacts lubricated by ionic liquids. A 9 nm radius yields stronger tunability than larger radii, with distinct friction coefficients at low and high loads indicating a shift in the slippage plane.

Loose packings of frictional spheres

open access: yes, 2010
We have produced loose packings of cohesionless, frictional spheres by sequential deposition of highly-spherical, monodisperse particles through a fluid. By varying the properties of the fluid and the particles, we have identified the Stokes number (St) -

High‐Throughput Exfoliation of Optoelectronic‐Grade MoS2 via Turbulent‐Flow Wet Jet Milling

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A scalable wet jet milling exfoliation method is demonstrated for producing optoelectronic‐grade MoS2 nanosheets using environmentally friendly ethyl cellulose in ethanol dispersion media. Guided by fluid dynamics modeling, this approach is optimized to achieve record‐high exfoliation throughput and concentration.
