Stability performance of new static excitation system with boost-buck converter

IECON '98. Proceedings of the 24th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society (Cat. No.98CH36200), 2002
This paper deals with the design and evaluation of a new static-excitation system for generator excitation systems to improve the steady-state and transient stabilities. It increases or maintains the generator field current by boosting the field voltage in the case of an input AC line voltage drop during and immediately after a fault.

Decentralized Adaptive Digital Control for Multi-machine Excitation Systems with Static Var Compensator

2020 5th International Conference on Advanced Robotics and Mechatronics (ICARM), 2020
In this paper, a decentralized discrete adaptive quantized control (DDQC) method has been proposed for multi-machine excitation system (MES) with static var compensator (SVC). The mathematical model of the power system is studied in discrete-time form, the digital control scheme is realized by using the improved hysteresis quantizer, which can ...

Shaft voltages in generators with static excitation systems-problems and solution

IEEE Transactions on Energy Conversion, 1988
Details on four types of shaft voltages are given, with emphasis on the occurrence, transmission and damaging mechanisms of shaft voltages from static excitation systems. A model for numerical simulation is presented and simulation results are compared with tests performed on a statically excited 1200 MVA turboset.

Design of static self shunt excitation system for giant hydro generator

2013 1st International Future Energy Electronics Conference (IFEEC), 2013
In this paper the characteristics of the static self shunt excitation system for giant hydro generator are introduced. Each component is analyzed on what should be addressed in the design, including the automatic voltage regulator, the silicon-controlled rectifier (SCR) cabinet, the de-excitation control and rotor overvoltage protection circuit and the

PSS design for a small synchronous generator with static excitation system

2007 IEEE Lausanne Power Tech, 2007
The paper presents an analytical derivation of parameters for the power system stabilizer (PSS) that produces damping torque component only. The method is applied to a linear single-machine system model equipped with static excitation system. Good dynamic properties of the plant equipped with the proposed PSS have been confirmed by simulation using non-

IEEE PSS4B implementation in Static Excitation System and Hardware-in-Loop Testing with RTDS

2020 IEEE International Conference on Power Systems Technology (POWERCON), 2020
Significant integration of renewable energy sources with conventional thermal, hydro and nuclear power poses several operational challenges to grid operators. Small signal instability caused by electro-mechanical oscillatory modes is one such example.

PI controlled solar energy supported static excitation system desing and simulation for synchronous generators

2016 IEEE International Conference on Renewable Energy Research and Applications (ICRERA), 2016
In this study, an automatic excitation control system design and simulation has been realized. Especially on the energy generation power plants, generator terminal voltage is increased by the step-up transformers and equalized for the parallel connection to the grid.

Enhancement of static excitation system performance for generators near electric arc furnace loads

IEEE Transactions on Energy Conversion, 1999
The tuning of static excitation systems (SESs) to enhance the performance of six gas turbine (GT) generators near an electric arc furnace (EAF) feeder has been successfully accomplished. The operation of these EAFs causes severe and long duration voltage fluctuations at the generator bus.

PQ versus EMC problems at a static excitation system in a power group

2014 International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility, 2014
This paper presents measurements comprising both power quality and EMC fields for a static excitation system composed of a transformer and controlled rectifier bridge in a power system generator group. The replacement of the old auxiliary excitation generator eliminates the disadvantage of using electrical machines with the mass in motion inertia and ...
