A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

Chameleon sequences reveal structural effects in proteins representing micelle‐like distribution of hydrophobicity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amino acids sequence of two different proteins with the same sequence (chameleon sequence—black boxes) represent in 3D structure of the proteins different secondary structures: HHHH—helical and BBB—Beta‐structural. The chains folded in water environment adopt different III‐order structures in which the chameleon fragments appear to adopt similar status

Coupling influence of ship dynamic flexure on high accuracy transfer alignment

open access: yes, 2013
This work investigates a new error source for angular velocity or attitude-based transfer alignment, which is caused by the coupling influence of dynamic flexure with ship angular motion.

Exon 7 splicing of ERα predicts poor prognosis and increases phenotypic heterogeneity in luminal a subtype breast cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ERα splice variant ERα∆7 lacks the C‐terminus, and its expression may change phenotypes of breast cancers. Our results showed that ERα∆7 is found in the luminal A subtype, and elevated ERα∆7 levels are linked to improved cell survival with lower proliferation and migration.

Data-driven prediction of failure loads in damaged FRP composites under four-point flexure

open access: yesComposites Part C: Open Access
This study investigates the use of machine learning (ML) as a tool to make predictions of the criticality of delamination damage in fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites subjected to four-point flexural loading. An extensive experimental campaign was

Study on a Flexure Hinge-Based Micro-Displacement Platform

open access: yes, 2011
In recent years, a flexure hinged micro-displacement platform driven by piezoelectric actuator is being widely used in vibration suppression and micro positioning applications for its fast response, nanometer resolution, no backlash, no friction and ...

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Research of Static-couple Separation Swing Frame on the Fixed Vibration Center

open access: yes工程科学与技术, 2019
Owing to the structure of the swing frame, the vibration center of the traditional two-plane vertical balancing machine is fluctuated, which often leads to the large error on measurement and the poor effect for static-couple separation.
