Non-dimensional approach for static balancing of rotational flexures

open access: yesMechanism and Machine Theory, 2015
Abstract This work presents a general method of statically balancing flexural hinges. Using a set of non-dimensional parameters, we show that one can quickly design a statically balanced rotational flexure. First, a balancing method is developed for an idealized hinge/torsion spring system.

A refined shear deformation theory for flexure of thick beams

open access: yesLatin American Journal of Solids and Structures
A Hyperbolic Shear Deformation Theory (HPSDT) taking into account transverse shear deformation effects, is used for the static flexure analysis of thick isotropic beams. The displacement field of the theory contains two variables.

Flexural behaviour of selected plants under static load [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Abstract. One of the principal purposes of soil bioengineering is the application of vegetation layers from a civil engineering point of view. Living plants are used to reinforce slopes and to control erosion. For a standardised implementation, it is essential to quantify the effectiveness and to assess technical parameters for such bioengineering ...

Flexure of thick orthotropic plates by exponential shear deformation theory

open access: yesLatin American Journal of Solids and Structures
In the present paper, a variationally consistent exponential shear deformation theory taking into account transverse shear deformation effect is presented for the flexural analysis of thick orthotropic plates.

Influence of bending deflection rate on properties of fibrous mortar

open access: yesHBRC Journal, 2013
Selection of the construction materials is affected by many factors including their properties under the applied loads. Loading rate is considered as a very important parameter which influences the behavior of the materials.

Guidelines for Pediatric Radiotherapy Simulation: A Report From the Children's Oncology Group Radiation Oncology Discipline

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Pediatric radiation therapy presents unique challenges compared to adult treatments, including those of immobilization, potential need for sedation, and the critical importance of accurate, reproducible positioning. Additionally, heightened attention to imaging doses is necessary to minimize long‐term toxicity in survivors.

Seismic performance of short concrete columns reinforced with steel-FRP composite bars and GFRP stirrups

open access: yesCase Studies in Construction Materials
The steel-FRP composite bar (SFCB) is an ideal reinforcement choice for structures aimed at enhancing durability and resilience. However, research on the seismic applications of SFCBs has primarily focused on flexure-dominated concrete columns, with ...
