This study investigates the potential for reducing emissions during the sintering process by selectively adjusting the O2, CO, and H2O content in the recirculation gas. Adjusting these components positively affects the sintering process, enabling the coke breeze content in the sinter mixture to be reduced.

Abstract The previous seismic events indicated the vulnerability of old reinforced concrete (RC) structures against earthquakes due to the absence of seismic detailing and capacity design specifications in such buildings. In this context, beam‐column joints (BCJ) of the existing RC structures built before the 1970s have exhibited poor structural ...

This paper presents the seismic performance of the down scaled 1:5 model IBS block column with non-linear static analysis. The aim of this research is to access the ultimate capacity and structural behaviour of the IBS block column. This paper demonstrates the theoretical prediction of the full-scale prototype strength based on scaling factors at non ...

Extension of modal pushover analysis to seismic assessment of bridges
Nonlinear static (pushover) analysis has become a popular tool during the last decade for the seismic assessment of buildings. Nevertheless, its main advantage of lower computational cost compared to nonlinear dynamic time-history analysis (THA) is ...

Impacts to the mountain‐valley circulation from the 2023 annular solar eclipse
In October 2023, as part of the Nationwide Eclipse Ballooning Project (NEBP), faculty and students from the University of North Dakota (UND) in coordination with Pueblo Community College Southwest collected weather observations during an annular solar eclipse colloquially known as a ‘ring of fire’ eclipse.

A main challenge for performance-based seismic engineering is to develop simple, practical and precise methods for assessing existing structures to satisfy considerable performance objectives. Pushover analysis is a simplified nonlinear analysis technique that can be implemented for estimating the dynamic demands imposed on a structure under earthquake

Riding out the storm: Behavioural responses of a large herbivore to high‐Arctic winds
Using 11 years of GPS data from 61 muskoxen in Northeast Greenland, we show how increasing wind speed and Arctic storms reshape movement modes and habitat selection. Muskoxen respond by bedding in dense vegetation, prioritizing energy conservation over foraging, revealing a simple behavioural strategy with potential fitness consequences under ...

Methodological Challenges in Studying Wealthy Families
ABSTRACT Studying the wealthy is not easy. This piece provides suggestions for recruitment, interview strategies, and design to gain high‐quality data on wealthy people. It is based on an interview study of 81 US racially‐diverse families with a median net worth of $25 million. First, to gain access to the wealthy, it is key for the researcher to use a
