Static Stability—An Update

Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society, 1991
Abstract Static stability should not be evaluated from the local lapse rate. There is a growing body of observations, such as within portions of mixed layers and forest canopies, showing that the whole sounding should be considered to evaluate stability. Air parcels can move across large vertical distances to create turbulence within regions that would

Effect of conformability on grasp static stability

Proceedings 2001 ICRA. IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (Cat. No.01CH37164), 2002
A model to predict the effect of global and local conformability on grasp static stability is presented. Conformability is defined as the geometric similarity between a workpiece and the smallest polyhedron fit over all contacts. Two conformability metrics, C/sub 1/ and C/sub 2/, that quantify global and local conformability, respectively, are ...

Dynamic and Static Stability

2019
The motion of dynamical systems is strongly dependent on whether their behavior is stable or unstable. This chapter obtains the conditions which determine stability for certain types of systems that we have analyzed in previous chapters, using a direct method that involves the properties of the potential energy or the dynamic potential energy.

Manipulability and Static Stability of Parallel Manipulators

Multibody System Dynamics, 2003
In earlier papers, P. Maisser developed a systematic analytical approach for the derivation of kinematic relationships of holonomic (geometric) constrained mechanical systems (CMS) [\textit{P. Maisser}, Z, Angew. Math. Mech. 71, No. 4, 116--119 (1991); Nonlinear Anal., Theory Methods Appl. 30, No. 8, 5127--5133 (1997; Zbl 0908.70007)].

On the Static Stability of a Circular Piezoceramic Plate

International Applied Mechanics, 2002
The author treats a circular piezoceramic plate. It is assumed that the plate is covered with electrodes, polarized with respect to thickness and is subjected to the electrical potential. Under the condition of hinge support and in the absence of radial displacement on the contour the static loss of stability of the plate is studied.

Static Stability of Rods

2000
In this chapter, the static stability of rods is examined. The theory of static stability of curvilinear rods is developed for the case when a loss of stability may occur with respect to a new equilibrium state of the rod. In this state, the shape of the rod axis may differ significantly from its shape in the natural configuration.
