Application of Static Synchronous Series Compensator to Damp Sub-Synchronous Resonance
2006 International Conference on Power Electronic, Drives and Energy Systems, 2006In this paper, a static synchronous series compensator (SSSC) is used to avoid torsional mode instability in a series compensated transmission system. The power system used in this study is the IEEE first benchmark model for sub-synchronous resonance (SSR) analysis. Simulation results in time domain using PSCAD/EMTDC presented and discussed.

Static synchronous series compensator model in EMTP
IEEE CCECE2002. Canadian Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering. Conference Proceedings (Cat. No.02CH37373), 2003A voltage source converter (VSC) can be used as a sinusoidal voltage source with controllable amplitude and angle. When placed in series with a transmission line, this source can control the flow of active and/or reactive power in the line thereby operating as a series compensator Note that in the mode of active power controller a separate DC source of

Transient Stability Assessment of a Power System with a Static Synchronous Series Compensator
First Asia International Conference on Modelling & Simulation (AMS'07), 2007Static synchronous series compensator (SSSC) is widely used in power systems to control power of power system by injecting appropriate reactive power into the system. It also has the capability of improving stability and damping by dynamically controlling its reactive power output.

A Structure-Preserving Energy Function for a Static Series Synchronous Compensator
IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 2004It is currently not possible to effectively apply direct methods for transient stability assessment in general multimachine systems incorporating Static Series Synchronous Compensators (SSSCs) because present energy functions do not involve SSSC actions.

Static Synchronous Series Compensator based on Z - Source Inverter
2015 International Conference on Energy Systems and Applications, 2015The role of power system is to supply the power to the various load center. Today's power system is designed to operate effectively and efficiently. In earlier years, Electric power system was small and localized. In order to improve stability of the system, real and reactive power compensation in the transmission line is important.

Application of static synchronous series compensators in mitigating Ferranti effect
2016 IEEE Power and Energy Society General Meeting (PESGM), 2016This paper discusses a novel application of the SSSC which is a VSC-based FACTS device connected in series with the transmission line. An unloaded transmission line experiences Ferranti effect, i.e. the unloaded end of the transmission line experiences a voltage rise, which increases in magnitude as the length of the line increases. The SSSC can inject

A Simple Modeling of Static Series Synchronous Compensator in NEPLAN for Power System Control
IECON 2019 - 45th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2019SSSC is an important member of Flexible AC transmission Systems (FACTS) device family. It is considered to be a superior series FACTS device, as it has the ability to control the flow of both active and reactive power in a transmission line. Therefore, it is important to have a model for this device to facilitate studies involving it.
