A role for Dps ferritin activity in long-term survival of Escherichia coli

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum
Escherichia coli expresses three ferritins that store acquired iron by oxidizing soluble Fe(II) to insoluble Fe(III), which can accumulate and later be utilized in cellular processes.

Magnetically Actuated Drops‐on‐Stilts Microrobots for Transport and Delivery of Hydrophobic Cargo

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Iron oxide nanoparticles and oil droplets in external magnetic fields form “drops‐on‐stilts” microrobots that transport hydrophobic cargo. Tunable nanoparticle–droplet interactions generate stilt‐like structures. Field rotation enables walking, obstacle navigation, and collective motion.

Improvement of Pointwise Bounds for Eigenfunctions in the Quantum Completely Integrable System

open access: yesMathematics
On a compact n-dimensional Riemannian manifold without boundary (M,g), it is well-known that the L2-normalized Laplace eigenfunctions with semiclassical parameter h satisfy the universal L∞ growth bound of O(h1−n2)ash→0+.

The CorC proteins MgpA (YoaE) and CorC protect from excess-magnesium stress and are required for egg white tolerance and virulence in Salmonella

open access: yesmBio
Cation homeostasis is a vital function. In Salmonella, growth in very low Mg2+ induces expression of high-affinity Mg²+ transporters and the synthesis of polyamines, organic cations that substitute for Mg²+.
