Function‐driven design of a surrogate interleukin‐2 receptor ligand

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Interleukin (IL)‐2 signaling can be achieved and precisely fine‐tuned through the affinity, distance, and orientation of the heterodimeric receptors with their ligands. We designed a biased IL‐2 surrogate ligand that selectively promotes effector T and natural killer cell activation and differentiation. Interleukin (IL) receptors play a pivotal role in

Identifying Functional Mechanisms in Psychotherapy: A Scoping Systematic Review

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychiatry, 2020
The identification of fundamental mechanisms is an important scientific pursuit in many fields of enquiry. With regard to the development of psychological treatments, understanding the mechanisms through which change occurs such that psychological ...

Statistical Risk Models

open access: yes, 2017
We give complete algorithms and source code for constructing statistical risk models, including methods for fixing the number of risk factors. One such method is based on eRank (effective rank) and yields results similar to (and further validates) the ...

Multiple ETS family transcription factors bind mutant p53 via distinct interaction regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mutant p53 gain‐of‐function is thought to be mediated by interaction with other transcription factors. We identify multiple ETS transcription factors that can bind mutant p53 and found that this interaction can be promoted by a PXXPP motif. ETS proteins that strongly bound mutant p53 were upregulated in ovarian cancer compared to ETS proteins that ...

Discriminatory Accuracy of the Gail Model for Breast Cancer Risk Assessment among Iranian Women

open access: yesIranian Journal of Public Health, 2020
Background: The Gail model is the most well-known tool for breast cancer risk assessment worldwide. Although it was validated in various Western populations, inconsistent results were reported from Asian populations.

Statistical Procedures and Robust Statistics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
It is argued that a main aim of statistics is to produce statistical procedures which in this article are defined as algorithms with inputs and outputs. The structure and properties of such procedures are investigated with special reference to topological and testing considerations.

Significant statistics [PDF]

open access: yesEMBO reports, 2012
Appropriate statistical analysis is vital to the integrity of the scientific record, but experience and intuition also play a role in interpreting results. Scientific progress should not be hampered through statistical over‐evaluation.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Issues in Statistical Inference [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
The APA Task Force’s treatment of research methods is critically examined. The present defense of the experiment rests on showing that (a) the control group cannot be replaced by the contrast group, (b) experimental psychologists have valid reasons to ...

PICALM::MLLT10 translocated leukemia

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This comprehensive review of PICALM::MLLT10 translocated acute leukemia provides an in‐depth review of the structure and function of CALM, AF10, and the fusion oncoprotein (1). The multifaceted molecular mechanisms of oncogenesis, including nucleocytoplasmic shuttling (2), epigenetic modifications (3), and disruption of endocytosis (4), are then ...
