Evolution of a geometric constant along the Ricci flow

open access: yesJournal of Inequalities and Applications, 2016
In this paper, we establish the first variation formula of the lowest constant λ a b ( g ) $\lambda_{a}^{b}(g)$ along the Ricci flow and the normalized Ricci flow, such that to the following nonlinear equation there exist positive solutions: − Δ u + a u ...

By dawn or dusk—how circadian timing rewrites bacterial infection outcomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The circadian clock shapes immune function, yet its influence on infection outcomes is only beginning to be understood. This review highlights how circadian timing alters host responses to the bacterial pathogens Salmonella enterica, Listeria monocytogenes, and Streptococcus pneumoniae revealing that the effectiveness of immune defense depends not only

Development of New Predictive Equations for the Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) of Women with Lipedema

open access: yesMetabolites
This study aimed to develop a novel predictive equation for calculating resting metabolic rate (RMR) in women with lipedema. We recruited 119 women diagnosed with lipedema from the Angiology Outpatient Clinic at Wroclaw Medical University, Poland.

Radial Symmetry and Monotonicity of Solutions to a System Involving Fractional p-Laplacian in a Ball

open access: yesAdvances in Mathematical Physics, 2018
In this paper, we study a nonlinear system involving the fractional p-Laplacian in a unit ball and establish the radial symmetry and monotonicity of its positive solutions. By using the direct method of moving planes, we prove the following result.

The Caenorhabditis elegans DPF‐3 and human DPP4 have tripeptidyl peptidase activity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPPIV) family comprises serine proteases classically defined by their ability to remove dipeptides from the N‐termini of substrates, a feature that gave the family its name. Here, we report the discovery of a previously unrecognized tripeptidyl peptidase activity in DPPIV family members from two different species.

A Theoretical Analysis of the Effects That the Glycocalyx and the Internal Elastic Lamina Have on Nitric Oxide Concentration Gradients in the Arterial Wall

open access: yesAntioxidants
Nitric oxide (NO) is a well-known member of the reactive oxygen species (ROS) family. The extent of its concentration influences whether it produces beneficial physiological effects or harmful toxic reactions.

A Mizuno-Todd-Ye predictor-corrector infeasible-interior-point method for symmetric optimization with the arc-search strategy

open access: yesJournal of Inequalities and Applications, 2017
In this paper, we propose a Mizuno-Todd-Ye predictor-corrector infeasible-interior-point method for symmetric optimization using the arc-search strategy.

Statistical Analysis and Parameter Selection for Mapper [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
In this article, we study the question of the statistical convergence of the 1-dimensional Mapper to its continuous analogue, the Reeb graph. We show that the Mapper is an optimal estimator of the Reeb graph, which gives, as a byproduct, a method to ...
