Strength distributions and statistical spectroscopy. I. General theory

Annals of Physics, 1977
Abstract The strength distribution for an arbitrary excitation is given in terms of a double expansion, and its sum rules by single expansions, in polynomials defined by the initial and final energy spectra. In model spaces which are not too large, a rapid convergence, to within fluctuations, is assured by the action of a central limit theorem, as is

Yield optimization for arbitrary statistical distributions: Part I-Theory

IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems, 1980
This paper generalizes certain analytical formulas for yield and yield sensitivities so that design centering and yield optimization can be effectively carried out employing given statistical parameter distributions. The tolerance region of possible outcomes is discretized into a set of orthotopic cells.

On the Statistical Distribution Function Theory of Traffic Flow

Operations Research, 1962
The homogeneous time-independent solution for a one-car speed distribution function is derived for a Boltzmann-like approach to the statistical theory of traffic flow. Numerical results are discussed for a number of different desired speed-distribution functions.

Application of Catastrophe Theory for Multimodal Distributions Statistical Analysis

Theory of Probability & Its Applications, 2005
Summary: This work considers the application of catastrophe theory methods (classification of smooth mappings) to the construction of analytical models of objects and processes based on statistical data. Multimodal one-dimensional statistical distributions are compared to catastrophe models of corank 1, i.e., the \(A_N\) series catastrophes.

Statistical Theory of Bimolecular Exchange Reactions: Angular Distribution

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1971
The statistical theory of chemical reactions is extended to describe the angular distributions of the products. The random phase approximation is used and the coefficients of the spherical harmonics are computed statistically. The distributions, symmetric about 90° in the center-of-mass frame, are then transformed to the lab frame. Application was made

Asymptotic distribution theory for general statistical functionals

Annals of the Institute of Statistical Mathematics, 1985
This short paper is complementary to the paper reviewed above, see Zbl 0585.62058. It gives conditions on the c.d.f. F and on general functionals T(F) implying the compact differentiability of T at F, along \(C^ 0(R)\). The asymptotic normality of statistical functionals more general than L- estimators is derived.

Statistical Theory and Methods for Comparing Distributions

2020
With the recent advancement of data collection techniques, there has been an explosive growth in the sizeand complex of data sets in many application domains. The rise of such unprecedented data has posed newchallenges as well as new opportunities to researchers in statistics and data science.

Statistical theory of vibronic spectra: The intensity distributions

Journal of Quantitative Spectroscopy and Radiative Transfer, 1998
Abstract The method of moments, derived from the statistical theory of spectra, has been used to generate envelopes of the electronic bands in diatomic molecules. Adequately accurate envelopes have been generated using a trial function with adjustable asymptotic behaviour. In the cases considered, the Gram-Charlier-type expansions are divergent.
