Addressing common inferential mistakes when failing to reject the null-hypothesis [version 2; peer review: 2 approved]

open access: yesF1000Research
Failure to reject a null-hypothesis may lead to erroneous conclusions regarding the absence of an association or inadequate statistical power. Because an estimate (and its variance) can never be exactly zero, traditional statistical tests cannot ...

A Pragmatic Approach to Statistical Testing and Estimation (PASTE)

open access: yesHealth Professions Education, 2018
The p-value has dominated research in education and related fields and a statistically non-significant p-value is quite commonly interpreted as ‘confirming’ the null hypothesis (H0) of ‘equivalence’.

Red blood cells could protect miRNAs from degradation or loss thanks to Argonaute 2 binding

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The present work investigates the presence and the stability of miRNAs into RBCs, both native and engineered. The observed stability is due to the Ago2 bound resulting in minimal RISC. Indeed, if the miRNA‐Ago2 complex is present, miRNAs are protected from release or degradation and they are biologically active. Thus, RBCs can act as miRNA carriers for

Characterisation of the role played by ELMO1, GPR141 and the intergenic polymorphism rs918980 in Fuchs' dystrophy in the Indian population

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study reports the upregulation of ELMO1 and GPR141 in human Fuchs' endothelial corneal dystrophy (FECD) corneal endothelium and ultraviolet A‐induced FECD mice model. A genetic association of an intergenic single nucleotide polymorphism rs918980 present between both genes is observed with FECD in the Indian population.

Piezo1 channels enhance anabolic signaling activation induced by electrical stimulation of cultured myotubes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
By using an electrical pulse stimulation (EPS)‐based in vitro exercise model and chemical activation/inhibition of mechanosensitive Piezo1 channels, we explored changes in protein synthetic response in cultured C2C12 myotubes. Our data showed that application of Piezo1 activator (Yoda1) during EPS significantly enhances the rate of protein synthesis in

Linear hypothesis testing in high-dimensional heteroscedastics via random integration [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
In this paper, for the problem of heteroskedastic general linear hypothesis testing (GLHT) in high-dimensional settings, we propose a random integration method based on the reference L2-norm to deal with such problems. The asymptotic properties of the test statistic can be obtained under the null hypothesis when the relationship between data dimensions
