Comparison of SYSTRAN and Google Translate for English→Portuguese

open access: yesRevista Tradumàtica, 2011
Two machine translation (MT) systems, a statistical MT (SMT) system and a hybrid system (rule-based and SMT) were tested in order to compare various MT performances. The source language was English (EN) and the target language Portuguese (PT).

Accuracy-based scoring for phrase-based statistical machine translation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Although the scoring features of state-of-the-art Phrase-Based Statistical Machine Translation (PB-SMT) models are weighted so as to optimise an objective function measuring translation quality, the estimation of the features themselves does not have ...

3D‐Printed Architected Material for the Generation of Foam‐Based Protective Equipment

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates 3D‐printed architected structures as alternatives to traditional foams in protective gear. It focuses on customizing impact strength and damping through design and manufacturing integration. Testing shows these structures outperform conventional foams, offering enhanced customizability, lower weight, and tunable performance ...

Syntax-based reordering model for phrasal statistical machine translation

open access: yesTongxin xuebao, 2008
To deal with the long-distance reordering, a linguistically syntax-based reordering model was presented for phrasal statistical machine translation. In this model, the syntax structure was decomposed according to the phrase segmentation to avoid the ...

Comparative Study of Experimental Methods for Measuring Thermal Properties of 100Cr6 Steel Powders

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates the thermal properties of 100Cr6 steel in both bulk and powder forms. Measuring the very low thermal conductivity typically exhibited by powders poses significant challenges. To address this, two novel measurement techniques—temperature gradient and finite laser pulse response—are introduced and evaluated by comparison with the ...

Statistical machine translation for Indic languages

open access: yesNatural Language Processing
AbstractStatistical Machine Translation (SMT) systems use various probabilistic and statistical Natural Language Processing (NLP) methods to automatically translate from one language to another language while retaining the originality of the context. This paper aims to discuss the development of bilingual SMT models for translating English into fifteen

Biologically‐Inspired Melt Electrowriting for the Generation of Highly Biomimetic Functional Myocardium

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this work, melt electrowriting is used to fabricate a 3D printed scaffold design that generates engineered cardiac tissues with in‐plane contraction, mimicking natural myocardium. It is shown that these tissues display advanced maturation and functionality.

Why Translation Is Difficult: A Corpus-Based Study of Non-Literality in Post-Editing and From-Scratch Translation

open access: yesHermes, 2017
The paper develops a definition of translation literality that is based on the syntactic and semantic similarity of the source and the target texts. We provide theoretical and empirical evidence that absolute literal translations are easy to produce ...
