Statistical mechanics of a guiding centre plasma

Journal of Plasma Physics, 1977
The equilibrium configurations of a one-species guiding centre plasma are circularly symmetric. Unlike results obtained for systems with artificial periodicity, the profiles depend uniquely on the energy and mean square radius. The random phase approximation is shown to be invalid.

Statistical mechanics of Ar2+ in an inductively coupled plasma

Spectrochimica Acta Part B: Atomic Spectroscopy, 1996
Abstract In the mass spectrum of an argon inductively coupled plasma (ICP), there is a peak due to the presence of the argon dimer ion, Ar 2 + . Using elementary statistical mechanics, an attempt is made to elucidate the mechanism responsible for this ion's presence in the ICP, The assumption of local thermodynamic equilibrium (LTE) in the ICP leads

Equilibrium statistical mechanics treatment of a ‘‘modified’’ two-dimensional guiding center plasma

The Physics of Fluids, 1983
Equilibrium properties of a two-dimensional guiding center plasma are reinvestigated in detail by means of the BBGKY hierarchy. A new equation of state is presented and compared with the results of the Monte Carlo simulation and the correlation energy is computed.

Computer simulation of statistical plasma mechanics (an example of undergraduate research)

American Journal of Physics, 1978
A plasma containing only a small number N?150 of electrons and ions in a cubical volume V=L3 is studied theoretically. The electrostatic potential energy UαN is computed for a large number 𝒩?20000 of random particle configurations, labeled α. The values UαN are used for determining the density of states GN(UN) and the thermal average ?N of the ...

The electrodynamics and statistical mechanics of linear plasma response functions

Journal of Statistical Physics, 1969
The purpose of this paper is to review and to extend, wherever possible, the Kramers-Kronig relations, sum rules, and symmetry properties for the electrodynamic transport tensors of a linear plasma medium. For complete generality, we consider both nonrelativistic and relativistic plasmas with and without external magnetic fields.

Statistical mechanics of a relativistic magnetized plasma and its radiation field

Physics Letters A, 1986
Abstract A relativistic BBGKY hierarchy for the system of a magnetized plasma plus radiation is developed in a manifestly covariant way. It is based on the Abraham-Lorentz-Dirac equation. Simple kinetic equations are obtained and briefly analysed.

Emergent Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless deconfinement in super-Coulombic plasmas.

Physical Review E
We study the statistical mechanics of two-dimensional "super-Coulombic" plasmas, namely, neutral plasmas with power-law interactions longer ranged than Coulomb. To that end, we employ numerically exact large-scale Monte Carlo simulations.
