Junhui Cai, Dan Yang, Linda Zhao and Wu Zhu's contribution to the Discussion of ‘Vintage Factor Analysis with Varimax Performs Statistical Inference’ by Rohe & Zeng

open access: yes, 2023
In the 1930s, Psychologists began developing Multiple-Factor Analysis to decompose multivariate data into a small number of interpretable factors without any a priori knowledge about those factors.

Statistical Language Modelling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Grammar-based natural language processing has reached a level where it can ‘understand’ language to a limited degree in restricted domains. For example, it is possible to parse textual material very accurately and assign semantic relations to parts of sentences.

Statistical validation of genetic models

open access: yes, 2001
Various aspects of statistical validation of genetic models are reviewed. Possible ways of decomposing additive genetic variance over time and ways of comparing predictions at different times are suggested.

Carcinomas and Carcinoid Tumors of the Lungs and Bronchi in Children and Adolescents: The EXPeRT Recommendations

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Primary lung carcinomas and bronchial carcinoid tumors (BC) are very rare malignancies in childhood. While typical BC and mucoepidermoid carcinomas are mostly low‐grade, localized tumors with a more favorable prognosis than in adults, necessitating avoidance of overtreatment, adenocarcinomas of the lung are often diagnosed at advanced disease ...

Health‐Related Quality of Life and Symptom Severity Among Patients With PIK3CA‐Related Overgrowth Spectrum: A Mixed‐Methods Study to Understand Real‐World Experience With Alpelisib Treatment

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background PIK3CA‐related overgrowth spectrum (PROS) includes several rare overgrowth disorders resulting from somatic gain‐of‐function mutations in PIK3CA. Despite treatment advances, including the recent approval of alpelisib for PROS in the United States, literature detailing the patient experience with PROS is limited.

Modeling statistical metadata

open access: yesProceedings Thirteenth International Conference on Scientific and Statistical Database Management. SSDBM 2001, 2002
An object oriented statistical metadata model is presented, which can be used in building information systems providing metadata-guided, statistical data processing features. The semantics of the model are analyzed and a set of operators (transformations) is proposed that allows for the automatic manipulation of both data and metadata at the same time.

Clinical and Biological Features of Response in Resistant Neuroblastoma to 131I‐Metaiodobenzylguanidine Radiotherapy in the Anti‐GD2 Immunotherapy Era

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background 131I‐metaiodobenzylguanidine (131I‐MIBG) radiotherapy is a key treatment for relapsed and refractory (R/R) neuroblastoma (NB). Patients with R/R disease treated in the modern era are increasingly exposed to anti‐GD2 immunotherapy, which exerts selective pressure and may modify both tumor cell state and microenvironment.

Hospitalization Through Families’ Eyes: Comparing Inpatient Care Quality for Children With Sickle Cell Disease and Cystic Fibrosis in Canada

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Sickle cell disease (SCD) is a chronic, inherited hemoglobinopathy that requires frequent hospitalization for disease‐related complications. Canadian data on inpatient care is limited. This study compared caregiver‐reported hospital experiences of children with SCD to those with cystic fibrosis (CF), a chronic, autosomal recessive ...

Financial interpretation of herd behavior index and its statistical estimation

open access: yes, 2021
Herd behavior received increasing attention as the key to understanding financial crises. Recently, Dhaene et al. (2012) proposed the herd behavior index (HIX) to measure the degree of the comonotonic movement of stock prices. Choi et al.

Predictive Statistical Models for User Modeling [PDF]

open access: yesUser Modeling and User-Adapted Interaction, 2001
Summary: The limitations of traditional knowledge representation methods for modeling complex human behaviour led to the investigation of statistical models. Predictive statistical models enable the anticipation of certain aspects of human behaviour, such as goals, actions and preferences.
