Foundations of Structural Statistics: Statistical Manifolds [PDF]
Upon a consistent topological statistical theory the application of structural statistics requires a quantification of the proximity structure of model spaces. An important tool to study these structures are Pseudo-Riemannian metrices, which in the category of statistical models are induced by statistical divergences.

Geographic variation in walking activity in the red flour beetle Tribolium castaneum
This study examined whether there is geographic variation in field populations, focusing on the moving activity in the red flour beetle Tribolium castaneum. Results showed significant differences in moving activity among field populations but no correlation with latitude or meteorological factors.

Relaxation in statistical many-agent economy models [PDF]
We review some statistical many-agent models of economic and social systems inspired by microscopic molecular models and discuss their stochastic interpretation.

A Goodness-of-Fit Test for Statistical Models [PDF]
Statistical modeling plays a fundamental role in understanding the underlying mechanism of massive data (statistical inference) and predicting the future (statistical prediction). Although all models are wrong, researchers try their best to make some of them be useful.

Venom peptides have shown promise in treating pain. Our study uses computer screening to identify a peptide that targets a sodium channel (NaV1.7) linked to chronic pain. We produced the peptide in the laboratory and refined its design, advancing the search for innovative pain therapies.

A comparison of statistical hadronization models
We investigate the sensitivity of fits of hadron spectra produced in heavy ion collisions to the choice of statistical hadronization model. We start by giving an overview of statistical model ambiguities, and what they tell us about freeze-out dynamics ...

Statistical Compressed Sensing of Gaussian Mixture Models [PDF]
A novel framework of compressed sensing, namely statistical compressed sensing (SCS), that aims at efficiently sampling a collection of signals that follow a statistical distribution, and achieving accurate reconstruction on average, is introduced.

Social context prevents heat hormetic effects against mutagens during fish development
This study shows that sublethal heat stress protects fish embryos against ultraviolet radiation, a concept known as ‘hormesis’. However, chemical stress transmission between fish embryos negates this protective effect. By providing evidence for the mechanistic molecular basis of heat stress hormesis and interindividual stress communication, this study ...

Statistical models for market segmentation [PDF]
It is an essential element of market research that customer preferences are considered and the heterogeneity of these preferences is recognized. By segmenting the market into homogeneous clusters the preferences of customers is addressed.
