ICT Employment Statistics in Europe: Measuring Methodology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Despite the persistent need to precisely capture and carefully analyze the employment effects associated with the production and deployment of ICT, policy discussion has not been well-supported by good quality statistical information on the ICT ...

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

A Multi-Risk Methodology for the Assessment of Climate Change Impacts in Coastal Zones

open access: yesSustainability, 2020
Climate change threatens coastal areas, posing significant risks to natural and human systems, including coastal erosion and inundation. This paper presents a multi-risk approach integrating multiple climate-related hazards and exposure and vulnerability

Measuring influence in dynamic regression models [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
This article presents a methodology to build measures of influence in regression models with time series data. We introduce statistics that measure the influence of each observation on the parameter estimates and on the forecasts.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Methodological framework for producing national tourism statistics from mobile positioning data

open access: yes, 2020
Due to the ongoing increase in daily mobility, reductions in border controls, and new trends in tourism, it is important to find new ways to record comprehensively the growing number of tourists.

Single molecule photon counting statistics for quantum mechanical chromophore dynamics

open access: yes, 2006
We extend the generating function technique for calculation of single molecule photon emission statistics [Y. Zheng and F. L. H. Brown, Phys. Rev. Lett., 90,238305 (2003)] to systems governed by multi-level quantum dynamics. This opens up the possibility

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Statistical Methodology for Pathogen Detection

open access: yesJournal of Food Protection, 2007
The main goal of the present study was to discuss the application of the McNemar test to the comparison of proportions in dependent samples. Data were analyzed from studies conducted to verify the suitability of replacing a conventional method with a new one for identifying the presence of Salmonella.

A duality approach for the weak approximation of stochastic differential equations

open access: yes, 2006
In this article we develop a new methodology to prove weak approximation results for general stochastic differential equations. Instead of using a partial differential equation approach as is usually done for diffusions, the approach considered here uses
