Integrable E-Lements for Statistics Education [PDF]

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2005
Without doubt modern education in statistics must involve practical, computer-based data analysis but the question arises whether and how computational elements should be integrated into the canon of methodological education. Should the student see and study high-level programming code right at the beginning of his or her studies?

Evaluation of the Utility of Baseline Echocardiogram in Patients With Standard Risk Precursor B‐Lymphoblastic Leukemia

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
Abstract Background A routine baseline echocardiogram is often obtained prior to anthracycline administration in children with cancer. The utility of baseline echocardiogram is unclear in patients with standard risk B‐cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (SR B‐ALL) as their anthracycline cumulative dose is low.

Crosstalk between the ribosome quality control‐associated E3 ubiquitin ligases LTN1 and RNF10

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of the E3 ligase LTN1, the ubiquitin‐like modifier UFM1, or the deubiquitinating enzyme UFSP2 disrupts endoplasmic reticulum–ribosome quality control (ER‐RQC), a pathway that removes stalled ribosomes and faulty proteins. This disruption may trigger a compensatory response to ER‐RQC defects, including increased expression of the E3 ligase RNF10 ...

Parts of the Whole: Hands On Statistics

open access: yesNumeracy, 2018
In this column we describe a hands-on data collection lab for an introductory statistics course. The exercise elicits issues of normality, sampling, and sample mean comparisons. Based on volcanology models of tephra dispersion, this lab leads students to

The CATALST Curriculum: A Story of Change

open access: yesJournal of Statistics Education, 2020
One of the first simulation-based introductory statistics curricula to be developed was the NSF-funded Change Agents for Teaching and Learning Statistics curriculum. True to its name, this curriculum is constantly undergoing change.

Function‐driven design of a surrogate interleukin‐2 receptor ligand

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Interleukin (IL)‐2 signaling can be achieved and precisely fine‐tuned through the affinity, distance, and orientation of the heterodimeric receptors with their ligands. We designed a biased IL‐2 surrogate ligand that selectively promotes effector T and natural killer cell activation and differentiation. Interleukin (IL) receptors play a pivotal role in

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.
