VITAL STATISTICS FOR EDUCATIONAL USES [PDF]

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Public Health, 1925
T HE PUBLIC seems to be suspicious of statistics and statisticians for two reasons. First, anyone who has a sufficient knowledge of higher mathematics and of statistical method to be classed as a genuine statistician will of necessity find himself among the group of " highbrows" collectively labelled as experts, and there seems to be in the popular ...

Dietary Protein Intake and Peritoneal Protein Losses in Peritoneal Dialysis Patients

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients lose protein in their waste dialysate, potentially increasing their risk for malnutrition. We wished to determine whether there was any association between losses and dietary protein intake (DPI). Methods DPI was assessed from 24‐h dietary recall using Nutrics software.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.
