Sufficient Statistics and Extreme Points

open access: yesThe Annals of Probability, 1978
A convex set $M$ is called a simplex if there exists a subset $M_e$ of $M$ such that every $P \in M$ is the barycentre of one and only one probability measure $\mu$ concentrated on $M_e$. Elements of $M_e$ are called extreme points of $M$. To prove that a set of functions or measures is a simplex, usually the Choquet theorem on extreme points of convex

Safety and Efficacy of GLP‐1 Receptor Agonists in Adults With Epilepsy, Obesity, and Type 2 Diabetes

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Managing obesity in patients with epilepsy is complicated by the weight‐gaining properties of essential antiseizure medications (ASMs) such as valproate and pregabalin. We evaluated the safety and efficacy of initiating glucagon‐like peptide‐1 receptor agonists (GLP‐1 RAs) in this population.

Strong Linkage Between Observed Daily Precipitation Extremes and Anthropogenic Emissions Across the Contiguous United States

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
The results of probabilistic event attribution studies depend on the choice of the extreme value statistics used in the analysis, particularly with the arbitrariness in the selection of appropriate thresholds to define extremes.

White Matter and Perivascular Imaging Changes in Alzheimer's Disease and Cerebral Amyloid Angiopathy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Peak‐width of skeletonized mean diffusivity (PSMD) and diffusion tensor imaging–analysis along the perivascular space (DTI‐ALPS), reflecting white matter integrity and glymphatic function, are altered in Alzheimer's disease (AD).

Improving extreme value statistics

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2014
The rate of uniform convergence in extreme value statistics is non-universal and can be arbitrarily slow. Further, the relative error can be unbounded in the tail of the approximation, leading to difficulty in extrapolating the extreme value fit beyond the available data.

Association Between Neurofilament Light Chain and Real‐World Ambulatory Function in Progressive MS

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Neurofilament light chain (NfL) is a biomarker of neuroaxonal injury in multiple sclerosis (MS), yet associations with functional outcomes remain unclear. Longitudinal associations between serum NfL (sNfL) and daily step count (STEPS) from wearable devices were assessed in a large international progressive MS cohort.

Cerebrospinal Fluid Over Plasma Links Analytes to Cognitive Decline in Older Adults at Risk for Alzheimer's Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To identify inflammatory analytes in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and plasma associated with cognitive decline in cognitively normal (CN) older adults at risk for Alzheimer's disease (AD). Methods In a longitudinal study of 118 CN older adults (65–80 years, 54% APOE ε4, 26% preclinical AD), 1331 CSF and 1501 plasma analytes were ...

Impacts of Extreme Climate Events on Subtropical Upland Crops: A 20-Year Case Study in the Hilly Area of Southwest China

open access: yesAgronomy
Understanding how climate extremes affect crop growth in humid–subtropical hilly regions is essential for climate-smart agriculture, yet phenology-resolved evidence remains limited.

Early Clinical and Cerebrospinal Fluid Predictors of 1‐Year Recurrence in Autoimmune GFAP Astrocytopathy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Autoimmune glial fibrillary acidic protein astrocytopathy (GFAP‐A) is an inflammatory central nervous system disorder with variable outcomes. Relapse occurs in a subset of patients, but early predictors remain unclear. We aimed to identify admission‐available features associated with 1‐year recurrence and develop an interpretable ...

Bringing Statistics to Storylines: Rare Event Sampling for Sudden, Transient Extreme Events

open access: yesJournal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems
A leading goal for climate science and weather risk management is to accurately model both the physics and statistics of extreme events. These two goals are fundamentally at odds: the higher a computational model's resolution, the more expensive are the ...
