ABSTRACT Background Maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) patients frequently suffer from frailty, characterized by reduced physical function and poor prognosis. Myokines, such as myonectin, secreted by muscle, are emerging regulators of systemic health. This study investigated the relationship between serum myonectin, adipokines (adiponectin, omentin), and ...

Extreme Bandits Using Robust Statistics
We consider a multi-armed bandit problem motivated by situations where only the extreme values, as opposed to expected values in the classical bandit setting, are of interest. We propose distribution free algorithms using robust statistics and characterize the statistical properties.

ABSTRACT Background Japan has one of the highest dialysis prevalence rates worldwide and a shrinking, aging population. Whether dialysis burden has entered a sustained post‐peak phase or whether recent declines partly reflect pandemic‐related disruptions remains uncertain.

A New Class of Reduced-Bias Generalized Hill Estimators
The estimation of the extreme value index (EVI) is a crucial task in the field of statistics of extremes, as it provides valuable insights into the tail behavior of a distribution.

We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Rates of convergence of powered order statistics from general error distribution
Let $ \{X_{n}: n\ge 1\} $ be a sequence of independent random variables with common general error distribution $ \hbox{GED} (v) $ with shape parameter v>0, and let $ M_{n,r} $ denote the r-th largest order statistics of $ X_{1}, X_{2}, \ldots, X_{n ...

Photon statistics on the extreme entanglement [PDF]
AbstractThe effects of photon bunching and antibunching correspond to the classical and quantum features of the electromagnetic field, respectively. No direct evidence suggests whether these effects can be potentially related to quantum entanglement.
