Transport in nanoscale systems: the microcanonical versus grand-canonical picture

open access: yes, 2004
We analyse a picture of transport in which two large but finite charged electrodes discharge across a nanoscale junction. We identify a functional whose minimisation, within the space of all bound many-body wavefunctions, defines an instantaneous steady ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

β‐TrCP overexpression enhances cisplatin sensitivity by depleting BRCA1

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Low levels of β‐TrCP (Panel A) allow the accumulation of BRCA1 and CtIP, which facilitate the repair of cisplatin‐induced DNA damage via homologous recombination (HR) and promote tumor cell survival. In contrast, high β‐TrCP expression (Panel B) leads to BRCA1 and CtIP degradation, impairing HR repair, resulting in persistent DNA damage and apoptosis ...

Numerical Two-Dimensional Steady-State Evaluation of the Thermal Transmittance Reduction in Hollow Blocks

open access: yesEnergies, 2019
After the first concerns about global energy consumption around the 70 s, some standards were established with the aim of improving the energy efficiency in buildings.

Venusian hydrology: Steady state reconsidered [PDF]

open access: yes
In 1987, Grinspoon proposed that the data on hydrogen abundance, isotopic composition, and escape rate were consistent with the hypothesis that water on Venus might be in steady state rather than monotonic decline since the dawn of time.

Steady state thermal radiometers [PDF]

open access: yes, 1974
A radiometer is described operating in a vacuum under steady state conditions. The front element is an aluminum sheet painted on the outer side with black or other absorptive material of selected characteristics.

PARP inhibitors elicit distinct transcriptional programs in homologous recombination competent castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PARP inhibitors are used to treat a small subset of prostate cancer patients. These studies reveal that PARP1 activity and expression are different between European American and African American prostate cancer tissue samples. Additionally, different PARP inhibitors cause unique and overlapping transcriptional changes, notably, p53 pathway upregulation.

Asymptotic nonequilibrium steady-state operators

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2009
We present a method for the calculation of asymptotic operators for nonequilibrium steady-state quantum systems. The asymptotic steady-state operator is obtained by averaging the corresponding operator in Heisenberg representation over infinitely long time. Several examples are considered to demonstrate the utility of our method.

QMM. A steady state version [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper studies long-run characteristics of the quarterly macro model (QMM) used at the Central Bank of Iceland; it studies if there exists a balanced growth path that QMM will replicate and if it will converge to this path. It concludes that there is
