Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Thermal behavior analysis of PWR fuel during RIA at various fuel burnups using modified theatre code [PDF]

open access: yesNuclear Technology and Radiation Protection, 2016
The fuel irradiation and burnup causes geometrical and dimensional changes in the fuel rod which affects its thermal resistance and ultimately affects the fuel rod behavior during steady-state and transient conditions. The consistent analysis of

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Digital simulation of gas turbine steady-state and transient performance for current and advanced marine propulsion systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The research study focuses on the idea of simulation of an Integrated Full Electric Propulsion System. The simulation required the development of a gas turbine performance model that could predict the dynamic behaviour of the engine in response to a ...

A grid-forming energy storage damping strategy based on bidirectional proportional regulation

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrical Power & Energy Systems
To address the challenge faced by grid-connected energy storage systems using the typical Virtual Synchronous Generator (TVSG) control strategy in balancing both steady-state and dynamic performance during active power reference changes and grid ...

Performance Study of Axial-Flux Eddy Current Coupler Based on the Equivalent Circuit Model

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2018
A new approach to study the steady-state and transient performances of an axial-flux eddy current coupler is presented in this paper. To simplify the analysis, the 3-D model of the eddy current coupler is reduced to a 3-D linear model using the mean ...

Real-Time Multiparameter Identification of a Salient-Pole PMSM Based on Two Steady States

open access: yesEnergies, 2020
Real-time multiparameter identification has been widely investigated in relation to high-performance control and fault diagnosis of salient-pole permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs). However, it is rank-deficient for simultaneously estimating flux,

Performance analysis of a pulse detonation turbine engine based on unsteady finite-time model

open access: yesCase Studies in Thermal Engineering, 2023
Quasi-steady state and transient state performance analyses of a pulse detonation turbine engine (PDTE) are conducted based on an unsteady finite-time model.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...
