Proposed Specifications for Steel Box Girder Bridges

Journal of the Structural Division, 1980
Proposed design specifications for steel box girder highway bridges are based on ultimate design approch. For design of unstiffened compression flanges a new strength curve is proposed considering the effects of residual stresses and geometric imperfections. Stiffened bottom compression flanges are designed by an interaction diagram giving the strength

Fatigue management of the Midland Links steel box girder decks

Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers - Bridge Engineering, 2014
The Midland Links motorway viaducts, carrying the M5 and M6 around Birmingham, UK have been subject to a regular programme of assessment, repair and strengthening since 1989, after corrosion problems, primarily due to chloride contamination, were first detected in 1979.

Mechanical Analysis on Incremental Launching for the Steel Box Girder

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2014
Houdingxiang No. 3 Bridge is a 4-span steel box girder bridge. After the incremental launching construction, the bridge has to be lowering to the support bear, the lowering construction is divided into three stages. At first the launching equipment is used to lower 80cm, the next the jack with load capacity of 180 tons is used to lower 110cm, finally ...

Geometric imperfections and tolerances for steel box girder bridges

Canadian Journal of Civil Engineering, 1988
An investigation to determine the magnitude of geometric imperfections induced during the fabrication of welded steel box girders is reported for nine highway bridges constructed in Canada. Measurement data were collected to compare the significance of dead load on initial imperfections obtained following fabrication.

Buckling of the Compression Flanges of Steel Box-Girder Bridges

1983
In Chapter 7 the behaviour of longitudinally stiffened compression flanges is studied via on orthotropic plate concept. The present chapter investigates such elements as systems of flange sheet and discrete stiffeners; i.e. it employs the same approach as used in Chapter 10 in an analysis of stiffened webs.
