An H1-Galerkin method for a Stefan problem with a quasilinear parabolic equation in non-divergence form

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, 1987
Optimal error estimates in L2, H1 and H2-norm are established for a single phase Stefan problem with quasilinear parabolic equation in non-divergence form by an H1-Galerkin procedure.

A Method for Thermal Dimensioning and for Energy Behavior Evaluation of a Building Envelope PCM Layer by Using the Characteristic Days

open access: yesEnergies, 2017
Net zero energy buildings (nZEB) require the development of innovative technologies such as the use of phase change materials (PCMs) in walls for the energy requalification of low inertia buildings.

Evaluating Forecasts at Multiple Horizons: An Extension of the Diebold–Mariano Approach

open access: yesJournal of Forecasting, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Forecast accuracy tests are fundamental tools for comparing competing predictive models. The widely used Diebold–Mariano (DM) test assesses whether differences in forecast errors are statistically significant. However, its standard form is limited to pairwise comparisons at a single forecast horizon.

Holding out on restructuring negotiations: A legal analysis over Finnish and Swedish legislation

open access: yesInternational Insolvency Review, EarlyView.
Abstract This article examines how Finnish and Swedish restructuring laws create opportunities for creditors to hold out on restructuring negotiations. Using Anthony Casey's new bargaining theory and the traditional creditors' bargain model as analytical frames, the study argues that holdouts arise when ex ante rights – particularly security interests,

Modeling of Surface Structure Formation after Laser Irradiation

open access: yes
The Stefan problem in a semi-infinite media under laser irradiation is consideres. It is related to the melting and solodification processes, resulting in certain surface structure after the solidification. A simple model, as well as a more sophisticated

A Stefan Problem with a Non-monotone Boundary

open access: yesIMA Journal of Applied Mathematics, 1977
The thermal switch provides a motivation for studying Stefan problems with time dependent body heating terms, and consequent non-monotone phase boundaries. An integral equation for the phase boundary is derived, and solved asymptotically for large time. The position of the boundary is also computed directly using the enthalpy formulation of the problem.

Pancreatic Cancer Early Detection Biomarkers for High‐Risk Individuals: Insights From the PRECEDE Consortium

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) remains one of the deadliest cancers due to its asymptomatic progression, late‐stage diagnosis, and treatment resistance. Efforts in early detection have centered on identifying imaging features and liquid biopsy biomarkers capable of detecting PDAC and its high‐grade precursors before clinical symptoms ...

Optimal Boundary-Flux Control of a Sharp Moving Interface in the Classical Two-Phase Stefan Problem

open access: yesAxioms
In this paper, we study the optimal boundary control of solidification governed by the classical two-phase Stefan problem with a sharp moving interface.

Gubernatorial Re‐Election Incentives, Local Investment Bias, and Pension Fund Performance

open access: yesJournal of Corporate Accounting &Finance, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We investigate the impact of gubernatorial re‐election incentive and political factors on US public pension funds from 1990 to 2022. Our empirical analysis finds no significant overall relationship between gubernatorial re‐election incentives and local bias in the full sample.

Automatic control via thermostats of a hyperbolic Stefan problem with memory

open access: yes, 1999
A hyperbolic Stefan problem based on the linearized Gurtin—Pipkin heat conduction law is considered. The temperature and free boundary are controlled by a thermostat acting on the boundary.
