Noncritical holomorphic functions on Stein spaces [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the European Mathematical Society, 2015
We prove that every reduced Stein space admits a holomorphic function without critical points. Furthermore, any closed discrete subset of such a space is the critical locus of a holomorphic function.

Comparison of Risk Ratios of Shrinkage Estimators in High Dimensions

open access: yesMathematics, 2021
In this paper, we analyze the risk ratios of several shrinkage estimators using a balanced loss function. The James–Stein estimator is one of a group of shrinkage estimators that has been proposed in the existing literature.

Levi Problem: Complement of a closed subspace in a Stein space and its applications

open access: yesComptes Rendus. Mathématique, 2021
Let $Y$ be an open subset of a Stein space $X$. We show that if $Y$ is locally Stein and the complement $X-Y$ is a closed subspace of $X$, then $Y$ is Stein.

A study of minimax shrinkage estimators dominating the James-Stein estimator under the balanced loss function

open access: yesOpen Mathematics, 2022
One of the most common challenges in multivariate statistical analysis is estimating the mean parameters. A well-known approach of estimating the mean parameters is the maximum likelihood estimator (MLE).

Identification of Nonlinear State-Space Systems via Sparse Bayesian and Stein Approximation Approach

open access: yesMathematics, 2022
This paper is concerned with the parameter estimation of non-linear discrete-time systems from noisy state measurements in the state-space form. A novel sparse Bayesian convex optimisation algorithm is proposed for the parameter estimation and prediction.

National policy space: reframing the political economy of globalization and its implications for national sovereignty and democracy

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Political Economy, 2021
This paper critiques the trilemma framing of the political economy of globalization, and offers an alternative framing based on the construction of national policy space. The paper makes three main contributions.

Asymptotic Profile for Diffusion Wave Terms of the Compressible Navier–Stokes–Korteweg System

open access: yesMathematics, 2021
The asymptotic profile for diffusion wave terms of solutions to the compressible Navier–Stokes–Korteweg system is studied on R2. The diffusion wave with time-decay estimate was studied by Hoff and Zumbrun (1995, 1997), Kobayashi and Shibata (2002), and ...

Improving cloud type classification of ground-based images using region covariance descriptors [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Measurement Techniques, 2021
The distribution and frequency of occurrence of different cloud types affect the energy balance of the Earth. Automatic cloud type classification of images continuously observed by the ground-based imagers could help climate researchers find the ...
