Effect of temperature on the development of Steinernema carpocapsae and Steinernema feltiae (Nematoda: Rhabditida) in liquid culture

Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology, 2009
For commercial use of the entomopathogenic nematodes Steinernema carpocapsae and Steinernema feltiae in biological control of insect pests, they are produced in liquid culture on artificial media pre-incubated with their symbiotic bacteria Xenorhabdus nematophila and Xenorhabdus bovienii, respectively.

Susceptibility of the peachtree borer, Synanthedon exitiosa, to Steinernema carpocapsae and Steinernema riobrave in laboratory and field trials

Journal of Invertebrate Pathology, 2006
The nematode Steinernema carpocapsae (All) strain was significantly more effective against peachtree borer larvae (Synanthedon exitiosa [Lepidoptera: Sesiidae]) than Steinernema riobrave (7-12) strain in field and laboratory experiments. Eighty-eight percent control of peachtree borer larvae was obtained with S.

Ecological characterization of Steinernema anatoliense (Rhabditida: Steinernematidae)

Journal of Invertebrate Pathology, 2006
Our study describes the basic ecological characteristics of the entomopathogenic nematode Steinernema anatoliense including its response to temperature, moisture, and host range. The effect of temperature and soil moisture on the infection of Galleria mellonella larvae by S. anatoliense was determined.

Influence of Culture Method on Steinernema glaseri Lipids

The Journal of Parasitology, 1998
Entomopathogenic nematodes can be mass produced in artificial media for use as biological insecticides. Nematode in vitro media have been primarily developed on the basis of yield without fully considering nematode nutritional requirements. We investigated the quality and quantity of lipids in the entomopathogenic nematode Steinernema glaseri when ...

Steinernema loci sp. n. and Steinernema thanhi sp. n. (Rhabditida: Steinernematidae) from Vietnam

Nematology, 2001
AbstractTwo new species of Steinernema (Rhabditida), Steinernema loci sp. n. and S. thanhi sp. n., were isolated from beach soil in Thanhhoa and Hatinh provinces in the northern part of Vietnam. A combination of morphological, morphometric and rDNA-RFLP features indicated the distinctness of both species from other Steinernema spp.

Selection for host-finding in Steinernema feltiae

Journal of Invertebrate Pathology, 1989
Abstract A hybridized Foundation population of the entomopathogenic nematode Steinernema feltiae was bidirectionally selected for enhanced and diminished host-finding ability. While there was no response to selection for diminished host-finding, 13 rounds of selection for enhancement produced a 20- to 27-fold increase.

Steinernema scarabaei for the control of white grubs

Biological Control, 2003
Abstract The efficacy of the new entomopathogenic nematode species, Steinernema scarabaei , isolated from white grubs in New Jersey for the control of economically important white grub species (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae) was compared to that of two strains of Steinernema glaseri , four strains/isolates of Heterorhabditis bacteriophora (including ...
