Leveraging Digital Advanced Manufacturing to Enable Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cells With Ultrahigh Gravimetric Power Density

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
This study employs digital advanced manufacturing to develop lightweight, compact porous distributors as alternatives to conventional bipolar plates in PEM fuel cells. A graphene‐coated nickel foam achieves a power density of 1.52 W cm−2, while titanium‐based designs deliver lightweight solutions: an LPBF‐fabricated Gyroid lattice reaches 1.36 W cm−2 ...

Impact of Moisture Exposure on Thermal Stability and Safety of Solid‐State Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
Sulfide‐based solid‐state batteries (SSBs) hold significant potential for next‐generation energy storage, yet their practical deployment is hindered by the moisture sensitivity of sulfide solid electrolytes. This study examines how moisture exposure influences thermo‐electrochemical instability at the material and cell‐level, and underscores the ...

Penetrative Convection in Rotating Tilted f-plane with Multiple Radiative and Convective Layers

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
In this paper, we conducted a linear instability analysis to investigate penetrative convection in rotating, tilted f -planes with multiple convectively stable and unstable layers. Our findings indicate that penetrative distance decreases with increasing

A Computational Approach for Biomimetic Design of Liver‐On‐A‐Chip

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
A biomimetic liver‐on‐a‐chip with antiparallel perfusion was designed using COMSOL‐guided simulation to replicate hepatic acinus transport. Full‐scale modelling revealed diffusion‐dominated, length‐dependent nutrient gradients and low‐shear conditions.

The Asteroseismological Richness of RCB and dLHdC Stars

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
RCB stars are L ≈ 10 ^4 L _⊙ solar-mass objects that can exhibit large periods of extinction from dust ejection episodes. Many exhibit semi-regular pulsations in the range of 30–50 days with semi-amplitudes of 0.05–0.3 mag.

Ultralow‐Power Real‐Time On‐Chip Thermal Prediction via Finite Element Method–Machine Learning Codesign and Field‐Programmable Gate Array Deployment

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
A lightweight machine learning (ML)‐based thermal prediction framework is demonstrated and implemented on a field‐programmable gate array (FPGA). Using measured temperature data from a real chiplet, the approach enables real‐time, die‐level heat‐map inference with low power consumption, validating practical on‐chip thermal monitoring for advanced ...

Observations of Cool-Star Magnetic Fields

open access: yesLiving Reviews in Solar Physics, 2012
Cool stars like the Sun harbor convection zones capable of producing substantial surface magnetic fields leading to stellar magnetic activity. The influence of stellar parameters like rotation, radius, and age on cool-star magnetism, and the importance ...

Off-centre convective zones in mass accreting stellar models

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
We report the physical origin of transient off-centre convective zones (oCZs) that arise in mass accreting stellar models. Using detailed MESA simulations of binary evolution, we find that these oCZs are not numerical artefacts, but emerge due to a local increase in density near the retreating edge of the convective core. The density enhancement raises
