Unified Relationship between Cold Plasma Ejections and Flare Energies Ranging from Solar Microflares to Giant Stellar Flares

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
We often find spectral signatures of chromospheric cold plasma ejections accompanied by flares in a wide range of spatial scales in the solar and stellar atmospheres.

Optical and Ultraviolet Stellar Flare Spectroscopy [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Astronomical Union Colloquium, 1983
As for solar flares, one of the most physically revealing types of data for M-dwarf flares are high-resolution, time-resolved spectra. Due to the intrinsically faint nature of the M-dwarf stars, spectroscopic data has tended to be of low spectral (˜ 5 Ǻ) and temporal (˜ 5 min) resolution. However, with the development of image intensified spectrographs

Improvements in Health‐Related Quality of Life With Treat‐to‐Target Urate‐Lowering Therapy in Gout: A Post Hoc Analysis of a Randomized Multicenter Trial

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Although treat‐to‐target urate‐lowering therapy (ULT) is endorsed as best practice in gout management, limited data exist on its impact on health‐related quality of life (HRQoL). We assessed the impact of treat‐to‐target ULT on HRQoL among participants receiving protocolized gout care, identifying factors associated with HRQoL and HRQoL ...

Detecting Stellar Flares in Photometric Data Using Hidden Markov Models

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We present a hidden Markov model (HMM) for discovering stellar flares in light-curve data of stars. HMMs provide a framework to model time series data that are nonstationary; they allow for systems to be in different states at different times and ...

Multi-wavelength observations of stellar flares [PDF]

open access: yesSolar Physics, 1989
AbstractWe present observational data on stellar flares from a range of wavelength regimes, many of which were obtained simultaneously. Physical parameters of these flares are derived and discussed in the framework of the general solar flare model. It is found that flares on dMe stars are solar-like, except in mean energy.

Heterogeneity of Rheumatoid Arthritis–Associated Interstitial Lung Disease by Longitudinal Forced Vital Capacity Trajectory and Associations With Disease Outcomes

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective We aimed to identify unique disease trajectories within rheumatoid arthritis–associated interstitial lung disease (RA‐ILD) based on longitudinal forced vital capacity (FVC) values and their associated clinical outcomes. Methods We performed a cohort study of RA‐ILD within the Veterans Health Administration from 1999 to 2021.

Long‐Term Opioids in Gout: A Matched Cohort Study From the Veterans Health Administration

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Though used frequently to treat flare, risk of long‐term opioid exposure in gout has not been well defined. In this study, we examined the hypothesis that people with gout are more likely than individuals without gout to be prescribed long‐term opioids over time.

Constraining the Mass Loss and the Kinetic Energy of Stellar Coronal Mass Ejections with Solar Far-ultraviolet Flares

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Stellar eruptive events, such as flares and coronal mass ejections (CMEs), can affect planetary habitability by disturbing the stability of their atmospheres.

Unstable Phenomena in Stable Magnetospheres: Searching for Radio Flares from Magnetic OBA Stars Using VCSS

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
Although the majority of hot magnetic stars have extremely stable, ∼kilogauss strength surface magnetic fields with simple topologies, a subset undergoes small-scale explosions due to centrifugal breakout.
