On the gamma-activity of stellar flares [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1990
The principal possibility of γ-ray manifestation of stellar flares in the framework of pinch-model is shown. Validity of assumption that, γ-bursts are connected with magnetically active dwarfs (MAD) is discussed.

Evaluation of a novel EHR sidecar application to display RA clinical outcomes during clinic visits: results of a stepped‐wedge cluster randomized pragmatic trial

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objective We developed a novel EHR sidecar application to visualize key rheumatoid arthritis (RA) outcomes, including disease activity, physical function, and pain, via a patient‐facing graphical interface designed for use during outpatient visits (“RA PRO dashboard”).

Multichannel spectrophotometry of stellar flares

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1980
Stellar flares have been observed using the 32 channel spectrophotometer on the 5 m telescope. Net flare fluxes in the region 3200-7000 A are presented. A simple model of blackbody radiation and hydrogen recombination emission appears to fit the continuum points well.

COVID‐19 Vaccination is not Associated with the Development of Idiopathic Inflammatory Myositis in U.S. Veterans

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objective Several case reports have proposed a potential association between COVID‐19 vaccination and the subsequent development of idiopathic inflammatory myositis (IIM). This study examined prior COVID‐19 vaccination in US Veterans who developed new‐onset IIM compared to those without new‐onset IIM.

Addressing Economic Insecurities Can Improve Patient‐Reported Outcomes in Lupus

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Background Economic insecurities, such as food, housing, transportation, and financial challenges, are modifiable risk factors and influence patient‐reported outcomes (PROs) in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). We examined: 1) associations between economic insecurities and PROs; 2) the impact of screening and addressing economic insecurities during ...

Detecting Stellar Coronal Mass Ejections via Coronal Dimming in the Extreme Ultraviolet

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Stellar flares and coronal mass ejections (CMEs) can strip planetary atmospheres, reducing the potential habitability of terrestrial planets. While flares have been observed for decades, stellar CMEs remain elusive.

Energy Release in Stellar Flares [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1990
Flare-like events similar to those observed on the Sun occur on many different types of stars, particularly on late K and M dwarfs. Although the physical mechanisms responsible for these events remain largely unknown, it is likely that the flare energy derives from dissipation of magnetic fields as is the case for solar flares.

Short-duration Stellar Flares in GALEX Data [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2019
Abstract We report on a population of short-duration near-ultraviolet (NUV) flares in stars observed by the Kepler and Galaxy Evolution Explorer (GALEX) missions. We analyzed the NUV light curves of 34,276 stars observed from 2009 to 2013 by both the GALEX (NUV) and Kepler (optical) space missions with the eventual goal of investigating ...

Spatially Tailorable Liquid Crystalline Elastomer Alignment During Digital Light Process 3D Printing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Here, we report the fabrication of 3D printable liquid crystalline elastomer (LCE) structures with spatially tailorable alignment domains within the same layer. This work addresses the long‐standing challenge of preparing complex 3D LCE architectures with patterned functional domains to achieve nonlinear deformations. Fabrication of multi‐domains in 3D
