Naphthyridine‐Based Donor–Acceptor Boron Difluoride Complexes Targeting Red Emission in Organic Light‐Emitting Diodes

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Four donor–acceptor boron difluoride complexes based on triphenylamine donor and a naphthyridine acceptor units were synthesized, studied, and applied as OLED emitters. They exhibit pronounced intramolecular charge transfer character, balanced charge transport properties, and tunable emission. Near‐unity PLQYs are achieved for selected compounds, while

Stellar mass black holes: part 2 [Frontiers and controversies in Astrophysics]

open access: yes, 2011
Presents a lecture of Professor Charles Bailyn that discusses stellar mass black holes. the class begins with clarification of equations from the previous lecture. Four post-Newtonian gravitational effects are introduced and discussed in detail.

Gait Analysis of Pak Biawak: A Necrobot Lizard Built using the Skeleton of an Asian Water Monitor (Varanus Salvator)

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Pak Biawak, a necrobot, embodies an unusual fusion of biology and robotics. Designed to repurpose natural structures after death, it challenges conventional boundaries between nature and engineering. Its movements are precise yet unsettling, raising questions about sustainability, ethics, and the untapped potential of biointegrated machines.

3D‐Printing Aided Rapid Prototyping of Pretensioned Tensegrity Structures for Robotic Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Printing, injection molding, and assembly (PMA) is a method for rapid prototyping mesoscale, topologically complex, and tensioned tensegrity structures. In combination with PMA method, two mold design strategies: modular mold and compact channel layout, enable efficiency and scalability for tensegrity fabrication.

Merger-driven Growth of Intermediate-mass Black Holes: Constraints from Hubble Space Telescope Imaging of Hyper-luminous X-Ray Sources

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Hyper-luminous X-ray sources (HLXs) are extragalactic off-nuclear X-ray sources with luminosities exceeding the theoretical limit for accretion onto stellar-mass compact objects.

Root‐Stimulated Movements in Mimosa Pudica for Biohybrid Robotic Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that thermal and electrical stimulation of Mimosa pudica root induces movement of the petiole and pinnules without direct stimulation of the aerial organs, thereby enabling a plant‐based robotic gripper and providing a foundation for the development of intelligent and sustainable systems.

Intermediate-mass Black Hole Progenitors from Stellar Collisions in Dense Star Clusters

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Very massive stars (VMSs) formed via a sequence of stellar collisions in dense star clusters have been proposed as the progenitors of massive black hole seeds.

Advances in Electroactive Liquid Crystal Elastomers for Intelligent Robotics and Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Electroactive liquid crystal elastomers (eLCEs) integrate molecular anisotropy with electrical functionality to enable programmable actuation and reconfigurable electronics. This review classifies eLCEs into robotic actuators and adaptive electronics, summarizes key actuation mechanisms, and highlights fabrication strategies that bridge materials to ...

Jets from a stellar-mass black hole are as relativistic as those from supermassive black holes

open access: yes
International audienceRelativistic jets from supermassive black holes in active galactic nuclei are amongst the most powerful phenomena in the universe, acting to regulate the growth of massive galaxies. Similar jets from stellar-mass black holes offer a
