Tailoring Functional Properties of Ti–Ni–Cu Shape Memory Alloy Thin Films for MEMS Actuators

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A comprehensive study of critical parameters required to develop well‐performing Ti–Ni–Cu thin film shape memory alloy microactuators is provided. Materials science and device integration aspects are integrated by addressing structural and physical relationships using complementary characterization techniques as well as a practical fabrication solution

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.

Pulsations and outbursts of luminous blue variables [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
We propose an outburst mechanism for the most luminous stars in our and other galaxies. These million solar luminosity stars, with masses (after earlier mass loss) of between 20 and maybe 70 solar masses, are pulsationally unstable for both radial and ...

Reminiscence of a Stellar Pulsation Theorist [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
The author started working in stellar pulsation theory in 1965. Since this time, we have studied the effects of improved radiative transfer and dynamic zoning on models of Cepheids, RR Lyrae, and W Virginis stars. In this paper we discuss the relevant equations and some results in comparisons to observations of W Virginis and long-period Cepheids. Some

In Situ Micromechanical Study of Bimodal γ′–γ″ Precipitate Assemblies in Ni–Cr–Al–Nb Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A Ni–Cr–Al–Nb superalloy with a bimodal γ′–γ″ precipitate distribution is developed. Composite precipitate assemblies form through heterogeneous nucleation, effectively impeding dislocation motion. Micropillar compression reveals high strength at room and elevated temperatures, governed by precipitate shearing, with coupled faulting mechanisms ...

Asteroseismological Analysis of the Non-Blazhko RRab Star EPIC 248846335 in the LAMOST–Kepler/K2 Project

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
We conduct an asteroseismological analysis on the non-Blazhko ab-type RR Lyrae star EPIC 248846335, employing the Radial Stellar Pulsations module of the Modules for Experiments in Stellar Astrophysics based on the set of stellar parameters.

An Experimental High‐Throughput Approach for the Screening of Hard Magnet Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An entire workflow for the high‐throughput characterization and analysis of compositionally graded magnetic films is presented. Characterization protocols, data management tools and data analysis approaches are illustrated with test case Sm(Fe, V)12 based films.

Sub-second cadence structure of optical flares on AD Leo

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
Context. Stellar flares are sudden brightenings caused by magnetic reconnection and are frequently observed on late-type stars. High-cadence photometry of flares provides valuable insights into the mechanisms of these events, yet such observations remain
