Models for Massive Stellar Populations with Rotation [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2007
We present and discuss evolutionary synthesis models for massive stellar populations generated with the Starburst99 code in combination with a new set of stellar evolution models accounting for rotation. The new stellar evolution models were compiled from several data releases of the Geneva group and cover heavy-element abundances ranging from twice ...

Relations of Rotation and Chromospheric Activity to Stellar Age for FGK Dwarfs from Kepler and LAMOST

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series
The empirical relations between rotation period, chromospheric activity, and age can be used to estimate stellar age. To calibrate these relations, we present a catalog, including the masses and ages of 52,321 FGK dwarfs, 47,489 chromospheric activity ...

Radial Velocity Planet Detection Biases at the Stellar Rotational Period [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Future generations of precise radial velocity (RV) surveys aim to achieve sensitivity sufficient to detect Earth mass planets orbiting in their stars' habitable zones. A major obstacle to this goal is astrophysical radial velocity noise caused by active areas moving across the stellar limb as a star rotates.

THE BANANA PROJECT. V. MISALIGNED AND PRECESSING STELLAR ROTATION AXES IN CV VELORUM [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
As part of the Binaries Are Not Always Neatly Aligned project (BANANA), we have found that the eclipsing binary CV Velorum has misaligned rotation axes.

TESS Asteroseismology of β Hydri: A Subgiant with a Born-again Dynamo

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The solar-type subgiant β Hyi has long been studied as an old analog of the Sun. Although the rotation period has never been measured directly, it was estimated to be near 27 days.

Differential rotation of main-sequence dwarfs and its dynamo-efficiency [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
A new version of a numerical model of stellar differential rotation based on mean-field hydrodynamics is presented and tested by computing the differential rotation of the Sun. The model is then applied to four individual stars including two moderate and two fast rotators to reproduce their observed differential rotation quite closely.

STELLAR ROTATION–PLANETARY ORBIT PERIOD COMMENSURABILITY IN THE HAT-P-11 SYSTEM [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
A number of planet host stars have been observed to rotate with a period equal to an integer multiple of the orbital period of their close planet. We expand this list by analyzing Kepler data of HAT-P-11 and finding a period ratio of 6:1.

Determination of Stellar Rotational Velocities [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1985
The three basic methods for measuring axial rotation of stars had been suggested before the beginning of this century. These are (1) Modulation of starlight due to dark or bright areas on a rotating star; (2) Distortions in the radial velocity curves of eclipsing binary systems; and (3) Line profile analysis. Research in each of these areas is reviewed.

Constraining stellar physics from red-giant stars in binaries – stellar rotation, mixing processes and stellar activity

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2017
The unparalleled photometric data obtained by NASA’s Kepler Space Telescope has led to an improved understanding of stellar structure and evolution - in particular for solar-like oscillators in this context. Binary stars are fascinating objects.

Studying Stellar Rotation and Convection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Based on the lecture notes of a school titled "Tides in Astronomy and Astrophysics" that brought together students and researchers, this book focuses on the fundamental theories of tides at different scales of the universe - from tiny satellites to whole galaxies - and on the most recent developments.
