Activity of in situ stellate ganglion neurons of dogs recorded extracellularly

open access: yes, 1986
Activity was recorded from 145 neurons in the in situ stellate ganglia of 36 dogs. The activity of 28 of these neurons, most of them located in the ganglia's cranial medial region, was related to the cardiac cycle primarily during systole.

Oldest well‐preserved euprimate petrosal, from the early Eocene of India (Vastan Lignite Mine, Gujarat)

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract An exquisitely preserved, isolated partial petrosal with associated fragmentary stapes is described from the Vastan Lignite Mine (Gujarat, India), dated to the early Eocene (~54.5 Ma). Several anatomical traits (e.g., large petrosal plate; posterolateral entry of the internal carotid artery to the tympanic cavity; bony tubes surrounding the ...

Lidocaine Combined With Platelet-Rich Plasma for Stellate Ganglion Block in Chronic Migraine: A Multicenter, Prospective, Propensity Score-Matched Cohort Study. [PDF]

open access: yesBrain Behav
ABSTRACT Objectives To explore the association of stellate ganglion block with platelet‐rich plasma plus lidocaine with clinical outcomes in adults with chronic migraine, in comparison to lidocaine alone. Methods This multicenter prospective exploratory study enrolled 200 adults with chronic migraine scheduled for stellate ganglion block across three ...

“Hands‐On” white matter anatomy: Using Air Anatomy gestures and tractography on simple brain sections to enhance teaching of white matter directions

open access: yesAnatomical Sciences Education, EarlyView.
Abstract Teaching white matter (WM) anatomy to undergraduates is challenging. This is partly because WM fibers are oriented intricately and Klingler's dissection, the gold standard method used to demonstrate it, often requires time, advanced anatomical knowledge, and refined dissection skills.

Histamine and the mechanisms of nausea and vomiting: Translating the uncertain pharmacology of cyclizine

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Abstract Cyclizine is a long‐established, short‐acting drug, registered for preventing motion sickness, post‐operative nausea and vomiting (PONV) and ‘vomiting of known cause’. The latter is not defined but may include pregnancy and patients receiving palliative care, historically accepted without large, controlled trials.

Representative images showing a stellate ganglion and renal hilum.

open access: yes, 2013
A shows a star-shaped stellate ganglion behind the subclavian artery. B shows the renal hilum before dissection. The renal artery and renal sympathetic nerve enter the kidney through the renal hilum.

A shining starlet: Nematostella vectensis as a model for developmental, regenerative, and comparative biology

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, EarlyView.
Abstract The sea anemone, Nematostella vectensis, has been used as a model organism in developmental biology studies for many years. This estuarine species has the notable capacity to regenerate its full body plan from small pieces throughout life. Nematostella have been described as having a great degree of cellular plasticity.

Stellate ganglion blockade for analgesia following upper limb surgery

open access: yes, 2018
We report the successful use of a stellate ganglion block as part of a multi-modal postoperative analgesic regimen. Four patients scheduled for orthopaedic surgery following upper limb trauma underwent blockade of the stellate ganglion pre-operatively ...
