Applicability of Stand Structural Characteristics to Stemflow Modeling

Journal of Forest Research, 2002
A stemflow (SF) estimation model, based on the correlation between coefficients (a andb) of the regression equation (SF=aP g −b, whereP g is gross rainfall) obtained from sample tree and their diameter at breast height (DBH), is presented.

Throughfall and stemflow heterogeneity under the maize canopy and its effect on soil water distribution at the row scale.

Science of the Total Environment, 2019
Quantitative knowledge of the spatial variability of soil infiltration processes caused by canopy rainfall redistribution has significant hydro-chemical consequences owing to their influence on nutrients leaching and groundwater recharge in agricultural ...

Interspecific variation in tree- and stand-scale stemflow funneling ratios in a subtropical deciduous forest in eastern China

, 2020
Stemflow is an important water flux in forested ecosystems, which is influenced by both biotic and abiotic factors. The stemflow funneling ratio, F P , is a straightforward parameter to express the funneling efficiency of individual trees, F P , B t or ...

Stemflow contributions to soil erosion around the stem base under simulated maize-planted and rainfall conditions

, 2020
Stemflow is a primary pathway through which rainwater reaches the ground surface under crop cover. Substantial research suggests that stemflow amounts approach or exceed half the total precipitation on maize cropland; however, few studies have quantified

Interception loss, throughfall and stemflow in a maritime pine stand. I. Variability of throughfall and stemflow beneath the pine canopy

Journal of Hydrology, 1992
Patterns of spatial variability of throughfall and stemflow were determined in a maritime pine (Pinus pinaster Ait.) stand for two consecutive years. Data were obtained from 52 fixed rain gauges and 12 stemflow measuring devices located in a 50m × 50m plot at the centre of an 18-year-old stand.

A stemflow equation for grasses and similar vegetation

CATENA, 1982
Summary Analytical and progressive rainulator experiments allow one to build up a stemflow equation for grasses and similar herbaceous plants. The predictive value for this equation has been tested by subsequent measurements on simulated sods. The formula introduces a shape factor which is specific for canopies.

Reversibility of stemflow-induced soil acidification in Swedish beech forest

Environmental Pollution, 1991
Stemwater running down the trunks of beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) has an acidifying effect on soil near the stem. The deposition of acidifying substances may be two to four times higher close to the stem compared to in the stand in general. To study reversibility of soil acidification, 72 stumps of beech trees were chosen from five different year classes

Stemflow Measurement on Large Leaning Quercus serrata Trees: Examination of Stem Lean Effect on Stemflow

Hydrological Processes
ABSTRACTStemflow measurements were performed on seven Quercus serrata and canopy structure metrics were obtained to identify factors that affect stemflow. Among the seven stems, two exhibited a large stem lean (> 20°). Although a linear relationship between rainfall and stemflow was shown in all trees, stemflow volume on the highly leaning stems ...

Throughfall and Stemflow in the Forest Nutrient Cycle

1983
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses a number of factors influencing the throughfall and stemflow quality and their variation. The effect of the canopy in altering the precipitation quality is also discussed. The annual nutrient return to the forest soil for the elements K, Na, and S is predominantly via throughfall and stemflow and little ...
