Trophic relationships and habitat preferences of delphinids from the southeastern Brazilian coast determined by carbon and nitrogen stable isotope composition. [PDF]
To investigate the foraging habitats of delphinids in southeastern Brazil, we analyzed stable carbon (δ(13)C) and nitrogen (δ(15)N) isotopes in muscle samples of the following 10 delphinid species: Sotalia guianensis, Stenella frontalis, Tursiops ...

Detection of Helicobacter in the Digestive Tract of an Atlantic Spotted Dolphin (Stenella frontalis) [PDF]
Helicobacter spp. occur in the digestive system of a broad range of animal taxa, including marine mammals. Only one formally recognized species, Helicobacter cetorum, has been described in marine mammals. Helicobacter has not been reported in the Atlantic spotted dolphin (Stenella frontalis).

Diagnosing gastric ulcers in bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops sp.) using gastroscopy and cytology
Gastroscopy remains the most accurate method for diagnosing gastric ulcers in bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops sp.). Of the cytological parameters (pH, white blood cells, epithelial cells, basal cells and fluid colour), measured from the gastric fluid of eight dolphins, none were significantly related to the presence or severity of gastric ulcers ...

Abstract Complex color patterning is a characteristic feature of dwarf minke whales (DMWs; Balaenoptera acutorostrata) which has been used to photographically identify (photo‐ID) individuals and to research an aggregation on Australia's Great Barrier Reef (GBR).

Assessing Disease and Mortality among Small Cetaceans Stranded at a World Heritage Site in Southern Brazil. [PDF]
Cetaceans are considered environmental sentinels and their health often reflects either anthropogenic or natural spatio-temporal disturbances. This study investigated the pathological findings and mortality of small cetaceans with the aim of detecting ...

Abstract Objective Ocean planning provides opportunities for managers to evaluate tradeoffs among environmental, social, economic, cultural, and management considerations in the development of place‐based activities. Early integration of mobile protected species considerations into ocean planning reduces the likelihood of future resource conflict ...

Cetacean acoustic occurrence on the US Atlantic Outer Continental Shelf from 2017 to 2020
Abstract Long‐term distribution data for cetaceans are lacking, inhibiting the ability of management bodies to assess trends and react appropriately. Such is true even along the US Atlantic Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) where previous passive acoustic monitoring programs have laid the groundwork for monitoring cetacean occurrence over a multidecadal ...
