GERMINATION STUDIES ON STENOCEREUS GRISEUS AND ESCONTRIA CHIOTILLA

Acta Horticulturae, 2003
The vegetation of the municipality of Santiago Chazumba in Oaxaca, Mexico, includes the arid tropical scrub where the dominant species consists of the wild endemic cactus E. chiotilla together with small cultivated orchards of another cactus, S. griseus. Both are columnar cacti appreciated for their fruits. The first one is endemic and the second is an

QUALITY ATTRIBUTES OF DIFFERENT TYPES OF CACTUS PITAYA FRUITS (STENOCEREUS GRISEUS)

Acta Horticulturae, 2005
Pitaya is a cactus fruit that has been used as a complementary part of diet since ancient times in Southern Mexico. In this region about 30 types of pitayas have been identified but none of them has been characterized for quality attributes. In the present work, six types of pitayas were studied in order to select those with more potential for the ...

Short-wave ultraviolet-C light effect on pitaya (Stenocereus griseus) juice inoculated with Zygosaccharomyces bailii

Journal of Food Engineering, 2013
Abstract Fresh pitaya ( Stenocereus griseus ) juice was inoculated with Zygosaccharomyces bailii to be processed using a continuous ultraviolet-C light (UV-C) (57 μW/cm 2 ) system. Inoculated and uninoculated juices were processed at selected flow rates (16.49, 23.78, and 30.33 mL/s) and treatment times (5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 min).

Physical properties of spray dryedStenocereus griseuspitaya juice powder

Journal of Food Process Engineering, 2016
AbstractThe aim of this work was to analyze the effect of spray drying conditions on the physical properties of pitaya juice powder using a 23factorial design. Independent variables were inlet air temperature (150 and 180°C), feed flow rate (1.5 and 2 L/hr), and the amount of encapsulants (60 and 90%).

Stenocereus griseus (Haw) pitaya as source of natural colourant: technological stability of colour and individual betalains

International Journal of Food Science & Technology, 2019
SummaryStenocereus griseus pitaya has been evaluated as potential natural colourant on the basis of tristimulus colorimetry, differential colorimetry, and individual betalains, not previously conducted in conjunction with this raw material. Different technological treatment conditions were reproduced based on different pHs, temperatures and storage ...
