Oscillators Based on Step-Impedance and Slow Wave Transmission Lines for Sensing Applications

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques, 2023
This work investigates the capabilities of oscillators based on step-impedance and slow wave structures to sense dielectric constants. The material under test (MUT) is placed over the structure and the objective is to achieve a high sensitivity of the oscillation frequency with the advantage of low phase noise, enabled by the high quality factor of the

Highly Sensitive Phase Variation Sensors Based on Step-Impedance Coplanar Waveguide (CPW) Transmission Lines

open access: yesIEEE Sensors Journal, 2021
Reflective-mode step-impedance transmission line based sensors for dielectric characterization of solids or liquids have been recently proposed. In this article, in order to further increase the sensitivity, the sensor is implemented in coplanar waveguide (CPW technology), and this constitutes the main novelty of this work.

Branch Line Couplers With Small Size and Harmonic Suppression Based on Non-Periodic Step Impedance Shunt Stub (SISS) Loaded Lines

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
This paper presents branch line couplers with compact size and harmonic suppression based on non-periodic reactively loaded artificial lines. The reactive loading elements of the lines are step impedance shunt stubs (SISSs).

Design and application of microstrip parallel-coupled lines employing step-impedance transmission-line compensation

open access: yesIET Microwaves, Antennas and Propagation, 2009
The application of step-impedance transmission lines (SITLs) to improving the directivity of parallel-coupled microstrip lines is presented. A simple design procedure for two configurations based on the SITL technique is given. The application of the technique is demonstrated practically with a design at 0.9 GHz on an RF60 substrate.

Investigation of external quality factor and coupling coefficient for a novel SIR based microstrip tri-band bandpass filter.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2021
In this article, a new method is developed to design a three-band miniaturized bandpass filter (BPF) that uses two asymmetrically coupled resonators with one step discontinuity and open-circuited uniform impedance resonator (UIR) to achieve Global ...

Transmission lines loaded with pairs of stepped impedance resonators [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques, 2016
Differential techniques are widely used in communication and sensor systems, as these techniques have been shown to improve the performance. This paper shows how differential sensing of permittivity can be conducted in a simple way. For that purpose, a microstrip line loaded with a pair of stepped-impedance resonators is used in two different resonator

Synthesis and Design of Highly Selective Multi-Mode Dual-Band Bandstop Filter

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2021
This paper presents the synthesis and design of the multi-mode dual-band bandstop filter (MM-DBBSF). A highly selective multi-mode dual-band bandstop response is obtained using a quarter wavelength coupled line structure.

A Reflective-Mode Phase-Variation Displacement Sensor

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
In this paper, a displacement sensor based on an open-ended step-impedance transmission line is reported. The sensor operates in reflection, and the output variable is the phase of the reflection coefficient.

Dual-Mode Characteristic Based on Miniaturized Metamaterial for Multiband Operation Utilizing Double-Layer Interdigital and Trisection Step-Impedance Techniques

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2023
This paper presents a dual-mode characteristic for miniaturized metamaterial with a unit cell design based on an interdigital coplanar waveguide (ICPW) combined with trisection step-impedance to enable the three resonant frequency responses of 1.8 GHz, 3.
